probably pre, then the trials
for the 10000 ritz will have to get the standard at the trials.
Yeah, he's the got the trials standard (28:15). He just needs to hope that the trials will be under 27:45 and he's in the mix.
He can probably work with Rupp to make sure that the trials is under A standard pace.
He didn't have the Trials standard before this, so it's a big step. Probably will have little trouble running 27:44 in Eugene.
he will if the weather is similar to the '72 10,000m trials
Indeed, but I'd be shocked if he doesn't run the 10 at the Trials.

50% chance of 60; 30 % chance of 70; 20% chance of 80
based on the last ten years.

But those are the highs. With the Pacific not too many miles west, the warmer the day in the valley, the more afternoon breeze is generated and the more rapidly it can cool off if there is not a high pressure system keeping things out.
He might run the 10,000 and drop if not going well, but the 5000 has heats; so what is the timing?
The trials 10000 is at 6:45.
Some facts. wrote:

Damn - those were 8:00 pm temps. It could be ugly.
Could Ritz run in the 10000 at Pre?
I believe the 10 at Pre is Kenyan only. I could be wrong. I think he'll wait till trials and run standard there. Quality field that could take A effort to make team anyway. It will be warm and no pacers, but I still think 27:45 for first 3 won't be that difficult.
He needs to reevaluate. Watching him go through the last few months has been like watching a slow train wreck. I'm not optimistic about the next few months either.
He needs races with no expectations or pressure. I suspect 2013 will be another good year for him.
What about that 5000 he ran? I'd say he's looking pretty good honestly. Not a great day today for sure but not great conditions either. I'm sure he will be fine.

I thought that as well until looking at the preliminary 5k field...There are a decent amount of Kenyan runners in this event. I would assume though if the 10k is to serve as a Kenyan Olympic qualifier and if by chance they allow other athletes into the event, it should be a fast race and perhaps Ritz would have a chance at the standard...

Ritz is not running Pre--period. He will run the 10000 at the Trials (for which he qualified today!) on June 22, and if the weather is no worse than Hengelo I think he will run the standard AND make the team. If the race isn't going his way, he'll drop out and save himself for the 5, which begins on June 25.
I'd agree with this. I think he'll go all in at the trials. Based on the competition, it should be fairly quick. I Don't think he'll have a problem running 27:45 in 3 weeks. He might have to be the aggressor, but that's he normal style.
