He got pipped at the line after starting an early celebration. The winner has to be ecstatic to take that scalp!

Why don't you give credit where it's due and give the winner's name-- Joe Moore.
The story is funny as hell Andrew threw his shirt and then had to go apologize to a spectator. Sounds like a 7 year old temper tantrum. Poor Andrew
Sorry, Joe's mom...I forgot you couldn't read. There's an article attached with all the details. There's a video and pictures just for you, sweetheart.
Moore was a frickin' baller today. Reminded me of Billy Mill's improbable win. Never, never, never give up. Good things can happen.
I've never been capable of celebrating race victories publicly, before or after the finish line. Introverted. Stories like this make me very glad for that.
I got chicked in the half marathon today at Fargo....

Yeah I read it, but it drives me nuts when people don't name the "no name" who beats the "name". I think he deserves a little more respect than just a link and no shout out in your post.
Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. I think Joe deserved that, too. My mistake. I just didn't care for the attitude in your first response. I appreciate you explaining your reasoning like an adult. Cheers.
BTW, there's race video now that clearly shows Carlson getting cut off in the last 20 meters by a couple of slow 10K joggers that race officials didn't clear off the half marathon course. If that hadn't happened, it's clear Carlson had the momentum to win over Moore by a couple of meters. Carlson was pissed, but he had a good attitude, saying he had 13.1 miles to beat Moore, but never put him away.

I have a lot more sympathy for Carlson now that I see the video. Freak thing. Still, never celebrate before the line.
And they say the influx of joggers doesn't negatively affect the faster guys...
That is a real shame. Carlson shouldn't have celebrated before putting the race away. But the RD has a lot of explaining to do as well. You CAN'T have 10k walkers(!) impeding your HM champion on his way to the line. It's outrageous.
The "obstacles" at the finish were ridiculous.
Great attitude displayed by both runners. No complaining from Carlson and Moore is a class act.
Though they weren't the ones involved, seeing people walking with race numbers on makes my blood boil...every single time.
Evey year there is this kind of bottleneck at the Fargo Marathon event. This is the first year that it had a direct impact on the finish. Hopefully the race director will learn (finally) and do more than have one guy half heatedly pointing runners to the correct chute.
I talked briefly to Andrew on the plane ride back to Minneapolis after the trials. Super nice guy!
The ones that got in the way were at 1:34:00 for the 10K!
Great newspaper article. I can't imagine AC losing much sleep over tempo running a 1:04 mid and getting kicked down. Lets be honest the guys pr is 1:02. No scalps were claimed today, a rec runner just got lucky out there.

Dude, that's not anything like fair either. Joe Moore is a 1:04 half marathoner and a trials qualifier. He's no rec runner, and he didn't just get lucky. He said in his interview, he raced at a pace that was uncomfortable for him and just tried to hang on. It paid off.
Bottom line: Carlson was both a lot unlucky and a little unwise at the end of the race. Moore ran his ass off, got a huge win, a new PR, and took a nice scalp. Credit to both runners, and discredit to the RD for allowing this situation to happen.

Have you run Fargo? The course has enough turns to make you dizzy. It's no Houston. And the wind usually blows at least 20-30 mph.
And complaining about dodging 10Kers-- if you've run enough marathons you should know a lot of marathons overlap with HMers. This stuff happens all the time, so it's not just Fargo.
The race director and finish line coordinator should be canned. Embarrassing.
Has anyone seen footage from 2007 when Andrew won the last time? He's dodging runners in the same manner as this year but had the race wrapped up. Joe Moore ran well but admitted he had lost the race until those ladies got in Carlson's way. I'm still not exactly sure what is so attractive about finishing in the Fargo Dome, its a logistical nightmare for finishers.
A win is a win for sure, but no scalps were taken.
