HOP ABOARD THE WEBB TRAIN. BOWERMAN HERE WE COME.
3:37 is like 3:54-3:56 right?
If he was taking it easy lets assume a 3:53-3:52 by Bowerman and maybe 3:34 shape by the trials.
I wouldn't assume he was taking it easy. He was leading much of the race and then started getting passed, a lot, on the last lap and couldn't move with everyone. Hopefully he can get everything together for the trials. I really want to see him in the Olympics.
Some posters said that Webb would run 3:35 or similar at Oxy...and the race wasn't so tactical.
actually, if webb is doing all this off endurance he could easily hit 333 come the trials.
that is, if he can get that bounce back. but maybe the pistons dont work anymore. they do wear out you know
Q: Last time Webb ran sub 3:35.50?
A: July 6, 2007 Paris 3:30.54 (PR, WL)
nice

He seemed fairly content after the race and it looked like Vig was congratulating him excitedly on the infield, as if they were quite pleased with the result. So clearly things are going according to plan at least.
A lot of people seem to think Webb hasn't done much speed work yet, and that wouldn't surprise me. The strength is there, now he needs some wheels. Tonight's 3:37 was probably worth a 3:55 mile. I would expect 3:53 or so at Pre, and by the time the Trials roll around he should be a contender for top 3.
However, I still think Webb's medal chances are almost nil.

Would it be worth something else another night?
3:37 low is great off of only 1:51 800 speed.
Webb and Robby workout from a recent youtube vid (didn't say specifics)
7x 3min
500's
100's (~12.5) with Andrew's pulling away on the last one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nR6E0Ap6Ic&feature=relmfu
in a related interview vid that day, Webb says ~ a little bit of everything...'speed endurance'.
so presumably he's down some raw speed work during his base already

Don't leave us in suspense: Andrew's what pulled away on the last one?
And which Andrew?

Most other nights it would be worth a 3:54 mile
why do you want to see webb in the olympics instead of our three best 1500 meter guys. Right now he is not among our three best...
This is a perplexing result for Webb. On one hand it's another step in the right direction, but on the other hand you would normally expect a healthy Webb to be a few seconds faster by this time.
After watching those Webb/Andrews/Vig videos I get the sense that this is all part of their plan and he is still in hold back mode. We will know for sure in a few weeks.
These races for Webb maybe no more than high intensity workouts. It is strange to see somebody who recently ran only a 1:51 800 run a 3:37 1500.
The main problem for Webb is that there are so many fast 1500 runners this year. We have already seen the NCAA 1500 fall twice this year. Even Rupp, who is not even a 1500 runner, post an impressive 3:34 1500.
Okay, I'll add a little fodder to this discussion:
During the workout video, there is a point where Vig keeps shouting to Webb not to run too fast: "NO SORENESS!" Is it possible that he's telling Webb not to go to an all-out sprint at the end of the races, and that the "no soreness" rule is still applying? If so, Webb could drop another second, maybe second and a half.
if webb does this, Vig gets coach of the year!
I predict a 3:53-3:54 for Webb.
Now, let's talk trials strategy. He's going to go 2004 style and drive with 1100 meters to go.
Yeah, what was the reason for the 1:51? Would like to see a "line of fit" from 1:51 over 3:37 to longer distances! But small hope for Webb seems coming. Beat PvWesthuizen, Miles Batty and Will Leer.
