The track world already knows Eliud Kipchoge as he is the 5000m Outdoor World Champion and the only man to defeat Hicham El Guerrouj and Kenenisa Bekele. The thing that the world may not know is Eliud Kipchoge IF HE STAYS HEALTHY may shock many individuals this summer and the upcoming years. Eliud posted the following personal best last year as an 18 year old:
2003
1500m..........3:36.17 (09 Jun)
3000m..........7:30.91 (05 Sep)
5000m.........12:52.61 (27 Jun)
In 2004 he already has posted personal best or near personal best in only his first two early season races:
1500m..........3:33.20 (31 May)
3000m..........7:33.37 (14 May)
after watching tapes of both races it clear that Eliud ran only to win and not for time. It was evident that he was capable of running faster in the 1500m and 3000m which bodes will for a huge personal best in the 5000m. The new World Champion may just be the second coming of a Daniel Komen type athlete! I wouldn't be surprised if this year or next year Eliud runs 3:28.50 and 12:38.25-I look forward to seeing if he is as good as I think he is! I seriously don't think anyone other than Kenenisa can touch a healthy and fit Eliud in the 5000m. He may very well beat Kenenisa to something else being the first man under 3:30 in the 1500m, sub 13 minutes for the 5000m, and sub 27 minutes for 10000m. Eliud is Kenyan best beat to at least PERIODICALLY challenge the reign of the new Ethopian Emperor Kenenisa Bekele in the 3000m and 5000m.
