I'm looking at a lot of the state meets around the country and a lot of them have the 4x800. Why doesnt Washington state?
Mostly curious because our high school boys team would most likely win it.

WHy not california?!
I think I'd rather see WA drop the girls 4x2 and add a DMR to both sides... a DMR means the relay draws from a wider variety of events.
I also wouldn't mind if they added the Hammer Throw for field events.
Yes very true. It kinda seems like no one cares about the 4x200 anyways.

well I don't know if I'd go that far.I just brought it up because it creates an imbalance between what the boys and girls do, and it further tilts scoring to favor sprint teams. Seems like a short sprint relay (4x1) and long sprint relay (4x4) should be good enough.
4x200 is a fine event and I'd be all for it if the schools were big enough to support it, if the both the boys and girls ran it, and if we also had the 4x800 AND DMR as well. But once we get to that point, it's almost too many events... except maybe in big states like California, Texas or Illinois or Indiana where you either have just one class or huge schools/populations.
Dang I'm tired: South Lakes/Reston VA
for the 4a division, its a tight competition with eisenhower, auburn riverside, and gig harbor... i'm gonna have to say gig gets it. kids are tougher than nails there.
Gig Harbor would win it, they have the horses for a 7:48.
Not sure Ike or AR would get second though... Union has actually run 7:53.00. I was looking at this the other day, and I think I had several teams around 7:55 but Gig was the only team under 7:50 and I don't remember how many teams were in the low 7:50's. I'm going to have to look that up again ... let's see what the hypothetical state qualifiers would be (if everyone loaded it up, meaning all 800/1500/1600/mile performances factored in, favoring the actual distances when possible)
Auburn Riverside would rule in the DMR though... they could probably threaten sub-10.
looks like when you include 1500m/mile marks, the state is even more competitive...

Auburn Mountainview could be put in the mix too.. Beat kentwood at the beginning of the season at Kent meridian invite.. Right now I would put them around 8:05.

They are pretty good for a 3A team... Rumbaugh has run 2:01.01, Scharer can probably run a ~2:01.3, Pelfrey has run 2:02.75, and Summerline 2:05.51.

That's looks about right Summerlin did run a low 2:03 last year but anyways.. Don't forget about mt.Spokane in 3A
For girls 3A I would put peninsula closer to the top like #3 or 4.
Mann talking about this really makes me want to see a 4x800 at state!
Mt. Spokane and Shadle Park suffer the usual "Eastern Regional is too good!" situation... Shadle Park projected at 7:59.79 but missing state, same with Mt. Spokane (8:06.53)
Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to see the 4x800 or DMR anytime soon at the state meet... have to get enough of the coaches to support it and then get it voted in by ... whoever is in charge of that stuff (obviously some part of the WIAA)
Another thing I'd like to see is the Portland Track Festival becoming a defacto Distance Relays Championship meet. Have the top teams in the Northwest toeing the line two weeks after state... get the top 5 teams from Oregon, the top 5 teams from Washington, and then fill out the field with the next best 6-8 teams for a 16-18 team field. Do that for the 4x800, 4xMile and Distance Medley. Have the 4x8 and 4xMile during the Friday session, and DMR during the Age Group session on Saturday. Now THAT would be amazing!
I really wonder if it would be possible to get enough coaches to vote it in.. That would be cool.
Now the Portland track festival.. If they put those relays in, I would most definitely travel and come to watch. I would think that Washington would flat out dominate just like border clash.
the girls would probably be pretty evenly matched through the top 10 or so (Oregon maybe even having a slight edge), but the boys would be heavily in Washington's favor, and the depth would definitely be on Washington's side (I could see them sweeping all the at-large invites or close to it).
