WHY THE HELL WAS ANDREWS IN LEAD AT 400M?
Very slim chance Webb will make the Olympic team. Thus, my prediction he will be the first 3:46 miler ever without either a WC or Olympic medal will come true. Maybe he has a few more 3:35 1500s in him, but his time has come. He simply does not have the longevity of either a Steve Scott or Jim Spivey.
After Webb 1:50 you guys are still knocking AJ. Right now AJ will clean Webb's clock at any distance.
He's got less than 4 weeks, I am confident he knows what he is doing...but at the same time I wonder the same thing.
But AJ hasn't even accomplished 1/10th of what Webb has.
Woops I meant 6 weeks
you fancy huh
I posted this in the other thread:
Just talked to Duke Coach Norm Ogilvie, a self-professed LetsRun.com reader but not poster.
It came down to Michael Rutt and Robby Andrews and Andrews didn't have his patented kick. Andrews was right there with Rutt, not trying to come way off the pace, and just couldn't outkick him.
Duke decathlete Curtis Beach ran 1:56 and for whatever reason was never in the race. Coach Ogilvie said Beach had run the hurdles and done the high jump earlier.
I asked him how much distance work Beach does and he said he does nothing extra outside of decathlon training. Yet his 800m pr is 1:47.99 from earlier this year. Coach Ogilvie said even if Beach got it all right and ran 1:45 right it would be hard for him to handle rounds as he trains as a decathlete.
Coach Ogilvie said the crowd at the meet was much bigger than normal and that the local papers were showing interest in the meet and sent out reporters solely because of the 800m race.
So thanks to Duke for making this happen and coach Ogilvie for telling me to call him on his cell phone.
We've got about 5 other LRCers who said they'd chime in from the meet as well.
Results are now up:
1 Rutt, Mike New Jersey-N 1:46.86
2 Andrews, Robbie Unattached 1:47.11
3 Gonzalez, Christian New Jersey-N 1:48.60

5 Clark, Stephen SR Duke 1:50.45
6 Webb, Alan Nike 1:51.05

Thank you, I can't do math it seems.
I wonder if Webb just couldn't kick with them and finished without an empty tank because he finished and just kept on jogging along for like 50m like he wasn't tired.
VT Indoor 1:51.91
Florida Relays 1:54.17
Duke Twilight 1:51.05
Fastest 800 of the year so far for AW!
Thank God, the US has hand full of top milers right now to overcome this horrific slump Webb is having. If I am not mistaken the US has 5 1500 meter runners with the A standard.
This is pretty much what happened to Joe Falcon in his late twenties. I think Falcon's last competitive mile was 4:16!!
Also, who can forget Seneca Lassiter's last competitive race, which was a 1:55 800.
When Webb was in his prime he probably would have blasted this field away in a time of 1:46-1:47. An 800 in 1:51 is a college varsity B time.
It makes you appreciate the longevity of Lagat, Scott, Maree, and Spivey.
