seriously, why is he running such a slow steeple 30 minutes before he runs the 15?
I don't think Acosta actually ran the steeple. I watched the live feed and don't remember him on the starting line or being lapped (obviously those would have been the only times a 10:00 steeple chaser would have been on camera). If anyone else watched it and can refute this, then I would probably listen to that person, as I wasn't paying too close attention, but the steeple may just be a misprint in the results.
AJ looked ok in the 1500, but not great. He never went with the leaders, instead opting to run with the chase pack, coming through the quarter in about 60 and 800 in either 1:59 high or 2:00. He made a strong move toward the front 3 in the third lap and almost regained contact with about 450 to go, but that was when the leaders started to surge themselves. Once that happened, AJ was in no man's land the rest of the race. I guess it depends on where he is in training right now and what he was trying to get out of his day. It was a solid negative split and he didn't completely fall apart, but it wasn't a great kick and he never really tried to run with the leaders or go for the win.
AJ is one of those solid sub 4 milers that finish in the top ten at the trials. At the national level he is always in the hunt. Heck, I have been told he has run a 3:53 mile. If that is true he is among the 20 fastest US milers ever. He still has a faster mile than Webb this year. A decade ago he would after Krummenacker be America's top miler. Lunn, Jennings, and Stember never ran a 3:53 mile. Somebody with that mile speed can cause other runners a lot of problems in important races.
He remains me of a Rob Myers type of runner, who has almost an identical PR to AJ.
uhh. everything he has done is the past is good. but in todays 1500 there are a ton of guys that i would pick over him. hell i would even take a freshman austin mudd over him. now yes if you are comparing him to a average runner. of course he has had great sucess. however if we compare him to the elite level. which is what catorgory he puts himself in. he is at the bottom of the list. i don't care if one day back whenever he ran a 3:53 mile or not.. the fact is that i could name prolly 15-20 guys in college that can beat or put up a good race against aj. let alone in the whole u.s.. he wouldn't even be a top guy in college today
I've never seen someone who started as such an overrated runner who has now became such an underrated runner.
That was poorly written but you catch my drift.
What is underrated about him??He is a good runner! "
good" not great.. and will not be a factor at the elite level. he would be lucky to be a factor at the NCAA level. o hare. mudd. arizona boys!! batty.. and plenty other guys i'm leaving out i'm sure. would be him this year
What is the fuss over this guy? Sounds like a narcissistic a-hole - has a posse of screaming byotches called AJ Nation and has gone on a "I'll keep growing my beard until I get a sponsor" kick. How self-absorbed can you get?
you are totally right. lol this guy is a joke. i hate runners like this. maybe if he beat some good guys and shut up he mite get a sponsor. altho he might be good enuf to get a sponsor. some guys are sponsord that he can beat. but hes not a top guy and there are college runners who would walk him down the last 200 of any 1500 metter race tactical or taken out fast

Reread your post. Your grammar is a far "greater" joke.
How many of the posts bashing Acosta are by the same guy? Anyway, the 3:53 makes him one of America's best milers, and with a little more improvement he can get into that 3:32-33 range and be a medal threat. Quit bashing a guy for not running his PR in May.
reread your grammar bud.. that is not right either.. who cares!!!
And his 3:53 at one time.. doesn't mean that for life he is going to be a medal threat. so what he used to be good. okay. just because you used to be good doesn't mean you are always going to be good.. in that case we can go off of webbs highschool mile right.. uhh no.. fact is.. aj is washed up.. and never was that great in he first place. o well he did run fast one time..
Dyestat kids out for the summer - great.
The truth of the matter is that AJ was a winner in high school, a winner in college, and will be a winner as a post collegiate. Not in medals or probably in US titles, but whether you think he's a tool or not, the dude is a racer and I respect that in a runner.

You sound like one of those Dyestat kids. Did AJ talk do you on the forums? Did that arrogant narcist toolbag real you in because he responded to some post of how great he was. Did he make you feel good about yourself because somebody who was known acknowleged you?
Great I'm glad he did that for you, now take off the AJ goggles and look at reality.
Welcome to letsrun.
So when Fam grows a beard and acts eccentrically he's unique and cool, and when AJ does the same he is an arrogant narcist [sic]?
I've actually met AJ a feel times and I get why people wouldn't like the guy. Never said he was a good guy.
But with my "goggles" off, what I see is a guy who finished 2nd, and 4th at NCAA's in the mile/1500.
A dude that has run 3:53 in the mile....
A dude who probably ran more events to help his team than any other collegiate during that time period....
And a dude who's not running that fast right now like hundreds of other good college runners have while trying to make the transition from college to post collegiate.
Like I said. He's not going to medal, he's not going to win US titles, but he's going to be a guy that's running and competing at USA's for as long as he wants to.
Now what reality do you see?
i wish aj the best also. always want a us guy to do well. however whats the deal with this 10 min steeple??even if that was for practice. geez that is terrible

The overrated guy who ran 3:45 for the 1500m in high school?
I don't understand why Klondike won't sponsor him
