You heard it here fist. Don't have an article just a giant gut feeling. After all you would think if he was running this year he would be spiking it up at Pre as a warmup to USA's. Season is too far along for him at this point to startup.

News Flash: Gut feelings mean nothing. Come back when you have something important to say.
does he have a twitter or anything that might offer up a clue?
He can pull the plug all he wants. Pretty sure 2012 is still here. Until 2013 rolls around, anyway.
You jackwad. Who starts a thread that intentionally sounds like a current news event then adds "just a gut feeling".
Go pull your pud.
Agreed. Jackwad.
Solinsky yesterday on twitter:
Hammy is going well just insanely behind the eight ball.

Yeah baby
he'll probably be a late entry at pre, and he said that if he is there he'll go for the standard there. but things arent looking good in terms of fitness.
even if he does get the standard, that will have been in a fast race that he was pulled to. he doesnt have anything to work with in a tactical situation due to being "insanely behind the 8 ball." but it defintely will help to have that off his chest.
based off of previous results and his current fitness, i say that the 5k team is Lagat (lock), Rupp (pretty solid lock), and based off of payton jordan and if he chooses to do so lomong (who right now i would put just a bit ahead of rupp.) unless sol shows something to indicate he can still pull off qualifying despite being behind (like he did last year, in rather impressive fashion given the circumstances) then i say he gets left off again.
its sad to think that, especially since i think he'll be one of our best 5k guys late in the summer. its the same situation as webb right now, he'll be ready to roll late in the summer but might not be by the trials, which is where he wants to be.
No. I think he runs trials at least. The only scenario where he pulls the plug is if he comes back too early and re injures himself. Given his mentality of practically being addicted to working out hard that could happen. But based on everything we have heard it sounds like he is being very patient with letting things heal for the very purpose of being able to compete this summer, even if he is "behind the 8 ball" in his fitness.

You really have nothing to base this on except an entertaining race. Just because Lomong ran a respectable time doesn't mean he is 'just a bit ahead of Rupp'. How do you figure this? What race of Rupp's recently do you point to to say that Lomong is ahead of Rupp? Do you forget Rupp ran a sub 8:10 2 mile indoors just 2 and a half months ago?
Your comment is wildly fanciful and without substantiation. Lets see Rupp in a race first before making ridiculous assertions.

you're an idiot. think about what you just wrote and how little you know about the situation. rupp is the best american born distance runner in the usa right now. he's also an american record holder. Yes, lomong ran a great 5k on his debut and can probably bust a sub 13 with some work and should be celebrated but...the last time there was a huge debut like this and everyone got excited, it was solinsky in the 10k, and he's really churned out a lot of fast 10k's since, hasn't he. don't speculate, enjoy
The last two posts are ridiculous: Rupp doesn't beat Lomong in a non-rabbited 5000, like the trials. Hell, I'm starting to wonder if Lagat could beat Lomong at the trials.
I have Lomong and Rupp even in a 5k, paced or not. Both have excellent kicks, but not world class. Lomong defeated Rupp at 3k indoors this year, but I have a feeling Rupp had a bad day. Rupp ran 8:09 for two miles. Far better than Lomong has run.
If Solinsky is interested in long-term longevity and reaching peak potential, he should forego this season. Who cares that it's an Olympic season? He can't medal at this point and probably wouldn't even make the final, even if he did manage to sneak on the team. And he will be pushing the envelope just to do that. He needs to let the thing heal properly and look to avoid the injury cycle. My bet is he won't, unfortunately.
What does "forego the season" even mean? I'm totally in agreement that it would be best for him to focus on recovering from the injury. But that doesn't mean he can't run at all. He should qualify to enter races based on his recent past performances. So why not enter the trials or fall races just to get the juices flowing, even if he gets his ass kicked. And remember, he has already foregone all of last fall and the spring. By the the Prefontaine meet it will have been about 10 months since he raced. He's already done a hell of a lot of foregoing.

It's obvious he means not pushing things too quickly, which is what he will probably end up doing if he goes for the trials and Olympics.
Thats the one reason I would put him ahead of rupp, the fact that he has opened up already and beat rupp at usas, we have nothing to base this off of until he races and until then we can assume lomong is ahead. I think that at this point that is enough to say that, currently at this point in time until we get an indication of rupps fitness, lomong is ahead of rupp. And the speed he shows he can use at the end of a race, assuming he can count the laps right, shows he might be able to out kick rupp at the trials. Of course I think when rupp does open up it will be in quick fashion.
It was just my opinion and observation, there's no need to get overly defensive about it.
