For being such a terrible coah on these boards his runners ran pretty fast on Sunday.
13:15
13:47
28:16
3:44
4:09 Female
GERMAN FERNANDEZ is next to run fast.
YUP DAVE SMITH IS A HORRIBLE COACH.

You should post this in reply to something. As it's own post it makes you sound like an old man yelling at a tree.
Well stated, old. Do people think Wetmore was a bad coach? Ritzenhein seemed to get hurt quite a bit. What about Warhurst? I mean, he had a 3.53 hs miler, and he got hurt, and ran subpar. Very soon, people will realize that it's not all a coach's doing when an athlete fails to thrive.
13:15- FOREIGNER, WHO MADE WORLD XC FOR GREAT BRITAIN, BEFORE DAVID.
13:47- KENYAN THAT ALREADY RAN FAST BEFORE DAVID.
28:16-WHAT DO YOU KNOW, ANOTHER KENYAN
3:44-GERMAN HASN'T TOUCHED HIS FRESHMAN TIMES SINCE FRESHMAN YEAR.
Now, looks like at the flipside, Colby Lowe DNF'd in the 10k.
Joe M... The 3 time footlocker finalist hasn't been running.
Where's the kid that got 2nd at footlocker 2.5 years ago, McElroy?
And the list goes on and on.
Foreigner's and talent galore, and still does HORRIBLE job statistically speaking.
Try again, Troll.
I agree, I am glad that he is having success with some of his talent but they are mostly all foreigners.
When he has a stable of American distance runners dropping 13:15 and 28:00's I will be more impressed.
Right now I am impressed with Wisconsin's mile group. Their 10k runner is canadian but beside that, they are a nice group of American boys running great. That guy is a great coach in my opinion.
Just the fact that he has a thread questioning his quality of a coach speaks to his quality. Usually, no one comes on here and calls out a terrible coach. It's just the top coaches who get all the hate. So and so only recruits foreigners; they get all the top recruits; none of their athletes improve much; they are always hurt.
Unless you have a vested interest in a particular coach, just let it be. And if you do have a vested interest, then go to that coach in person and discuss it. This is not the plast and it only makes this message board seem like a bunch of whiney babies.
Wisconsin certainly excelled indoors this year.
Good, yes, but Stanford's Jason Dunn has his guys ROLLING. Starting with Derrick (13:19 indoors, 27:31), whose times speak for themsevles, add:
Stutzman - 3:40
Atchoo - 3:42
Johnson - 8:50 steeple
Unterreiner - 13:50
Gregg - 13:46
Rosa - 14:04
Rosa - 14:22
Insane. Dunn doesn't get enough credit...

This ^ is an unusually stupid answer on multiple fronts. I have no opinion about Dave Smith but:
(1) The OP is questioning his ability to develop talent. The fact that Smith has had good success at placing high at NCAA XC makes him well known. It says very little about the OP's point.
(2) Brilliant advice about going to the coach directly and calling people "whiney" is about as lame as it gets. 99% of the folks here have no connection to any given athlete or coach. So, they should all just keep their mouths shut? Hate to tell you but the message boards would go completely silent.
So, in spite of your unimaginably lame protests, this is indeed the "plast".

McElroy is transferring is NAU.
I have no idea what I was trying to type with the "word" plast. haha, oh well.
"When he has a stable of American distance runners dropping 13:15 and 28:00's I will be more impressed."
- are there ANY ncaa coaches with a stable of 28.00's and 13.15's? so are yoy just not impressed by any coaches, i guess? does it really matter if his talent is non american? i think you dyestat fanboys are just bitter because of GF's injuries, etc. was it smith's fault that his shoes come off...or that he falls in xc races? go find another bandwagon to jump on.
So development doesn't count if it's a foreign runner? True, if they were already that fast then clearly the coach didn't develop them. However, wtf does being foreign have to do with anything? Does every runner outside of the US have some mysterious ability making them more talented than Americans at distance running? Or here is another way to look at it. If a coach brings in an 8:50 american and an 8:50 foreigner from a generic country and they both end up running 13:20 during their collegiate careers, does the development only seem impressive for the american? Does the american's development reflect more positively on the coach than the foreigners development? It shouldn't.
A distinction can be made as to whether or not a coach develops/improves their athletes or not. The nationality of the runners has nothing to do with it.
Kenya and Ethiopia are different countries. Just saying. Girma is from Ethiopia, and he's been in the US since high school.

Yeah it can't be smith's fault, after all he's just the coach - and therefore can't take any credit for destroying the kid's talent - just their successes - whoops.
Girma is American and went to HS in Georgia.
So since Farrell ran world junior cross that means Dave didn't have to do any coaching for him to run 13:15. Look at all the other juniors in that race and tell me how many now have run 13:15.
Dave Smith is a great person and coach.
His record speaks SUCCESS.
Smith even produced NCAA 10,000 Meter Champion(Female)
at Texas Tech in the desert. Leigh Daniels
HATERS,How many NCAA Championships have you won????
Get off the board and perhaps recruit and train someone.

Blah, blah, blah.
Look at his results. They show that he's doing much better than the great majority of D1 coaches out there.
Great coach. Great guy. / Thread.
