3:55------>>>>>3:38------->>>>>>3:25???
3:55------>>>>>3:38------->>>>>>3:25???
----->>>>>>>>>> 3:12
But what about the other 3 laps?
haha, nice
The thing with Webb is that I don't expect anything from him. If he runs well, great. If he doesn't run well, then so be it. I just kind of enjoy keeping an eye out for him because I believe he may surprise the haters.
Apparently he ran a 3:12 1400m time trial a couple of weeks ago.
The WR might be too much to ask but the American record is his if he wants it.
So yet another WR holder will watch the Olympic Games on the telly.
mutai doesn't hold a world record. fool.
I think he will eventually break the space time continuum and run the mile in 1 second.
3:54 last month
3:38 this month
3:22 next month
Done.

Very hard to believe... that's only a 14 second 100m kick from the world record, or an 18 second coast to a 3:30.
alright guys, enough WR talk.
but, us dudes keep getting stronger throughout our 20's. Last time Alan was healthy he was only 24. I bet he'll just naturally be a bit stronger now than he was then (obviously assuming he's done appropriate training i mean). Also, you can't say he's past his peak years because he's because his last healthy year was basically the start of his peak years, and he's been injured for the rest of them. So we will see him improve on what he did in his "peak years" because he was injured for basically all of him so his best performances are gonna come at a later age (and also therefore won't be as fast as they could have been if he had been healthy this whole time and already peaked).
Judging by his recent double I'd say his 5k is stronger than his 1500 right now. The time itself isn't better than 3:38, but since he had like 25 minutes rest it was. I bet he could run a 13:30-33 5k fresh right now.
Anyway, my point is I wouldn't be surprised to see Alan pop out a 3:34 in a month, and be ready for a 3:32 by the trials, and run right around his 1500 pr by the end of the season (whether he makes the Olympics or not). Also I think 5k will start to take precedence as his secondary event over the 800. I think knocking his 800 further into 1:43 territory will be tough from here on out, but I could see his 5k PR start dropping fast next year.
I do not know if he will make the US team, but he can surprise people when they least expect him to in a good European meet this summer and early fall. I hope he runs well again and beats some of those East Africans, but no expectations for Olympics. But, you never know, it is Webb.
I really hope he makes the team for a couple reasons. First, whether or not he's one of our top three at the trials, I have little doubt he'll be one of our top three by August.
Second, if he doesn't make the team, it might be very difficult for him mentally to keep going.

AGREE with everything you just said. Great, intelligent post.
Webb is coming off injury and is improving like gangbusters. By the games he will definitely be one of our top 3 milers so I hope he is can be one of our top 3 at the trials.
yeah this year is gonna be very interesting. Webb is obviously the most talented of our runners but it'll be close as to whether or not he can catch up in just the next two months. If he does America will have a much better shot at doing some damage in the 1500 at the Olympics. That said, after Lomong's 5k I'm wondering if he might be able to put together a world class 1500m time now.
It's May 1st, not April 1st, you forgot to tell me that I'm an idiot and that my post was stupid.

I would like him to double in the olympics. The 1500 and the 5K.
He will go sub 13 in the 5K in the Olympics. He can take the American record in the 5K, in the Olympics. Years ago, he ran a 13:10 in a build-up phase. Imagine what he can do in top shape. He is a closet 5K runner. He needs to come out. He is the best American distance runner of all time, he just doesn't know it yet.
The double will be very very difficult this year due to the scheduling, otherwise I would agree with you. As it stands, he has a better chance in the 1500 I think.

The WR might be too much to ask but the American record is his if he wants it.
So he could have jogged the last 100m and run 3 f*cking 32!
