It's in the latest issue of RW.
Taken out of context. RW is talking about female age groups above 50.
I saw that too. Really? 25 min. 5k won't even get you in the top 25% of a small race let alone one over 500 people. I always thought the serious runners were the ones running under 7 min pace, a 38 min 10K or a 1:24 half marathon. Clearly, RW is marketing to a different audience then they claim...
are you gonna eat that *****? wrote:

Actually it says nothing about any age group. There's no context that can clarify this statement any further. It's the first 2 sentences in the "Break 25:00" section of the article entitled "Time for a Fast 5-k".
That's all the context you need.
Better defined an "average runner" not "serious"
no everyone has the talent to run under 25 without training. How serious has nothing to do with time, but effort put into running
The kids whose parents forced them to do cross country would still run 22 minutes, and half their runs were walks in the woods. Anything over 21 minutes for men and 23 for women is too slow to be "serious" unless you're old.
You haven't been to a HS XC meet in awhile then.

And serious runners put in more effort. Kinda the point.
Typical Letsrun delusions about the running world.
At least 90% of people will never run a sub-25 5K. Being in the 10% that does puts you in the "serious" end of the spectrum in terms of running.

No. 90% of men taking running "seriously" will break 25. 90% of people may never break 25, but 95% of people running 5ks don't run seriously
i thought 10000 hours was serious

Yes!!
Oh wait....now do I have to change my username?
Most runners now are slow. They are very slow. In relative terms, 25:00 for 5k is semi-serious. There are a lot of 10:00 per mile and slower folks out there now. They pay their entry fees.
