GO JAMEL!
He's a former drug cheat, that is probably why he changed his name. He is 30 years old, came out of nowhere to run 1:47 low in 2005 (suspended for nandrolene shortly thereafter). Until 2012, he'd never broken 3:40 for 1500m. So he opens with 3:39 (practically solo effort after 800) and second race now 3:52 LOW...coming through 1500m in 3:35 (en route time)!!! SUPER IMPRESSIVE
This guy is EITHER a supremely gifted athlete like El G or a total doper. Very few athletes in the history of the sport, save for the BEST of the BEST, have ever shown such potential...especially at the age of 30.
As for me, I HOPE HE IS LEGIT. I LOVE TO WATCH HIM RUN!
Just Googled "Jamel Ahrass" and got the following result in Google:
"Ahrass pleads guilty
The rider of the ES Nanterre Ahrass Jamel got a six-month suspension after testing positive for a derivative of nandrolone. Interview with a man who assumes.
Interview by Jean-Claude Derniaux | 26.10.2005
JAMEL AHRASS (24 years), bronze medalist over 800m at the Championships in France , 1'47'26 record, tested positive on July 21 at the meeting in Reims (Marne). The national laboratory for testing has established August 4 (September 21 and then at the second assessment against) the presence of a derivative of nandrolone (19-norandrosterone) in her urine. The disciplinary body of first instance of the fight against doping in the FFA gave a one-year suspension (six months suspended) as of September 28. How did you receive this sanction? Jamel Ahrass. I assume. But I know that I was fooled by a tainted product. After the Championships of France in Angers (July 14-16), where I have also been tested (negative), I bought a dietary supplement to Decathlon Montesson, near my home. It was shown in the box that I could gain muscle. When you're an elite athlete, is it not a mistake of buying such a product? I would not have trusted, for sure. I unprofessionally. But the disciplinary commission of the FFA who heard me understands that I did not intend to boost (note: Nandrolone is rather detected in sprinters). After this case, have you all alone? No, not at all. The club supports me a lot of Nanterre. Leaders know me well. But if I was in contact with other major clubs in Paris (Neuilly-Plaisance Sports, CA Montreuil, Racing), some have told me he did not want me after such a story. But the announcement of the penalty, I also received many expressions of sympathy. Mounir Yemmouni (French international on 1500 m) called me, and the tennis Moroccan Younes El Aynaoui. I was very touched. What will you do by the end of the suspension in late March 2006? I work nights as a security guard. A job that will allow me to go on a one month internship in Kenya with a friend and then to go to Morocco to train hard. Then I will prove my rage real value next summer."

This was the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw that he was French. Not bashing France, but this was, in fact the first thought that crossed my mind.
totally awesome video - he's soooo relaxed that last bit i think he could have run 350 if he'd pushed the last 100m.just a guess tho

just watched alan webb's 2007 drake 3:51.7 mile (linked below)
i do believe jamal would have toasted webb in this race!! jamal basically ran solo from 850 meters!!
I think this might be the fastest mile ever by an athlete over 30 years of age.
Can anyone verify?
Not to mention i think its Jamal's debut full mile race
YES, debut mile time! super fast
Just watched the video of Webb. That was bad ass. Seriously, Jamal would have been right there!
That's damn impressive given this mile was his debut and he's post-30 age group.
Cheers.
Anyone know the next race for Jamel? Or his plans for the next of the season? And who is his coach?
Andres Manuel Diaz (ESP), 3:48.38 (31yrs old)
Bernard Lagat (KEN), 3:48.38 (30yrs old)
Steve Scott (USA), 3:48.73 (30yrs old)
John Walker (NZL), 3:49.08 (30yrs old)

Thx for sharing the list
Excited to see Arass in the 1500 tonight. My bet is he'll go 335 or faster.
ITS ON
Remember, he came through 1500 in 335 last week...and hes been posting wicked PRs in 2012
Ahrass is going to toast the field tonight - prediction 3:33.
You heard it here first.
I think all of these positive posts are from the same person... this dude is clearly a drug cheat. He'll test positive again sometime this season, hopefully before the olympics.
i agree with you completely man, its prob araass him self thats posting all the positive stuff. Once a cheater, always a cheater. Cant wait to see him get caught.
