The problem I have is that I cannot run a decent 5k relative to my half marathon performances.
In the last 18 months, I have run the following half marathon times:
1:27:30
1:30:05 (ran off of virtually no training due to calf tear)
1:28:10 (in the snow)
1:26:20
In the last two years, there are my 5k times:
19:38 (four months before the half marathons)
19:10 (two months before half marathons above)
20:00 (between the 1:30 and the 1:28)
19:49 (between the 1:30 and the 1:28)
19:40 (between the 1:30 and the 1:28)
19:52 (last weekend after the 1:26)
For my training, I don't do any sort of workouts. Just kinda run by feel. Generally speaking I never get below 6:40 pace for any thing longer than 5k in training.
For 2012 (15 weeks so far), I have averaged about 45 miles per week, with the lowest being 41 miles and the most being 52 miles. I run hilly routes at least twice a week.
Am I underperforming at 5k, and how can I fix it?
