Would I mess up the timing system if I banditted a college 1500? Would I mess it up if I dropped out with 200 to go?

How exactly do you plan on being able to start the race?
I think it's possible if you have a set of numbers to put on your uniform. Stand to the side of the starting line, and as the director calls out lane assignments pay attention to who isn't there and what number they are. Then quickly put on the corresponding number and jog to the start like you're late. If the director even notices you he'll probably just shrug it off and start the race. Just make sure to jet out of there after finishing just in case someone notices what you did.
If you don't have 30$ to run unattached (which seems expensive. I usually pay somewhere between 10-20$)
then maybe email the coach offering to volunteer before or after the event or the next home meet.
Not cool to try to bandit a college event. Organizers have a ton of things to do to put on a meet and possibly screwing up timing or even worse overcrowding the field and impeding those entered officially.
And why don't you have 30 bucks. Almost everyone posting on this site makes well into six figures. Just check out the posts regarding their annual salaries. Most start out at 75 grand right after graduation.
I don't have thirty bucks because I'm in college. I'm just broke.

Wait tables for three hours, then you'll have thirty bucks.
well get $30 or don't run the race.
why would you want to drop out of a 1500 with 200m to go? Sounds like a waste of time and effort to me. Just go run a TT if you're going to do that.
Quick awesome story:
I had a friend in high school that was two years older. Fastforward to my senior year, I am watching our JV meet and he shows up, with his old singlet.
He tells a freshman that he has just lost his 4x4 spot. My buddy jumps in for the third leg, singlet and everything. He runs something like the going rate for the race, maybe 62. He hands offs, keeps running, jumps the fence like Napolean Dynamite, jumps in his car, does a burnout and is never to be seen again, for a while.
I thought it was great. The freshamn did not want to run anyway.
I know a guy who bandited the Mt. Sac 10,000 back when there was only one "fast" race on Saturday night and he made it through the whole race.
I saw another guy try to bandit a 5,000 at San Diego State and the coach pulled him off the track snarling something like " this not a road race son, get off of my track"!
I once bandited the New England Collegiate XC champs one year. I just stood on the line like I was saying good luck to people then when the gun went off I just took off the line with everyone else.
Don't be a clown. You'll make a lot of enemies if you bandit a track meet.
