Me and a friend were arguing over whether centro had the ability to beat kiprop in London. I said that centro has better 400 speed than kiprop but he disagrees. Obviously at this point kiprop is in better shape so most likely the only way centro could beat him would be with a superior kick. So which one do you think has better speed?

You think Centro has better speed? Didn't Kiprop run a 47 for 400m? What can Centrowitz run for 400? Also, kiprop is a sub 3:30 guy isn't he?
Kiprop has a 3:30.46 1500m and a 1:43.15 800m. There's no way Centro has more speed than him. Kiprop even has a faster 3000m PR (7:42) and has more impressive Cross Country credentials. He is an all-around better athlete.

Your friend is right.
The only way Centro is going to beat Kiprop in any 1500m race is if Kiprop is forced to run with a 40 pound backpack and take a bathroom break at the 600m mark.
That's true, but Centro could certainly beat him. Or I should say Kiprop could beat himself, since he sometimes leaves way too much ground to make up before he makes his move.
They were pretty close at WCs last year. Given that Centro gained ground on Kiprop in the last 50m and that his improvement has been a bit sharper in the last year, Centro has an excellent chance of beating Kiprop this year or the next.
Centro has clearly improved alot lately, but Kiprop is clearly better. Pre Classic in '09 makes that clearly obvious. Is that clear?
