Just curious... 4 months ago I couldn't do 130 lbs.... I've been doing pushups every night for a few months and last night, I went to the bench out of curiously and did 160lbs!
I'm curious what's average?

a little while ago I pressed 55 lb dumbbells x 5 reps x 4 sets. No idea what I can barbell bench for one rep max. lean 148 lbs bodyweight.
Probably 160 but it hurts my shoulder so I don't approach max ever.
10 x 175lbs
1 x 205lbs
The average runner can't bench their own body weight. I benched 210 a few months ago when I focused on bench. Now I don't focus on bench, but rather do everything in the gym. But I bench 185 somewhat easy at the end of some of my workouts now.
360lbs here but I know that's not average. I'd bet the average is at body weight or about 20 lbs lighter than body weight

That doesnt add up at all. You should be able to bench 230.
http://www.muscleandstrength.com/tools/bench-press-calculator.htmlNo longer a runner, but was a 200/400/jumper type when I ran. 180lb bodyweight, 215lbx8 bench. Never tested max.
I'm somewhere between 190 and 200, but I don't run anymore.

Bad form or a previous shoulder issue
at the end of this summer when i was in pretty good 5k shape, i could bench 220lbs twice, so i don't know what the max for that would be.
Congenital shoulder issue. I can partially dislocate the shoulder if I want.

235ish
I can bench 235 right now am in 4:30mile- 16:00 5k shape
I also weigh 180 though
did a few reps at ~110 this winter.
5'8" 140.
You're an idiot. If he typically does sets of 10 for reps is likely he won't be able to bench his equivalent 1rm.
To put it into running terms, hypothetically say a runner runs 3:51 for 1500m. His 5k is 14:50 instead of 14:22. Could he run 14:22 likely if he tailored his training for the 5k. Similar concept, different rep ranges stress different systems.
I usually bench 3-5 reps, my 1rm is pretty spot on with calculators. Why? Because my lifting is focused on power. This is overly simplified but the concept remains.
215 is my 1rm.

But his equivalent is 232. And he only benches 205. That's a huge difference. I actually think he is making it all up.
Hell, I could barely get 175 4 times! But I could do 210.

He might be benching with more slow twitch fibers than the normal person. Analogous to a "strength runner", he might be a "strength bencher".
U a straight up liar. 180 and 16 flat 5k shape quit lying to yourself
When I used to bench I used to do 12x135 pretty regularly. I maxed at 185. I was 165lbs at the time and had long skinny arms. Very small biceps and weak shoulders. I just was not made to bench. For some reason, I could squat max 315 and boot a soccer ball 70 yards.
