Curtis Beach 1:47 open 800 earlier today in collegiate 800 debut but don't think anyones mentioned this yet his middle 400 was 49.8 i think the vid will be up soon absolutely unreal. also his facebook status says he got the regional time...possibly running the 800 at nationals this year??

If he needs to do it to win the NCAA title, I think Beach can go sub 3:50 in the 1500 at the end of the decathlon.
Nothing like spotting a Kenyan 30m (and the rest of the field near that) after 200, then walking them down like they are tenpins.

Seriously shocking the way he reminds me of the Cuban. If you look at Juantorena's progress, I think he wasn't too great at first but got amazing very quickly.

In addition, curve 3 was run in lane 2. No direct drafting benefit in the last 500m. Yes, clearly, there is a lot more there. This was not an optimal race...
Certainly 1:46.x. 1:45.x, maybe?
Obviously it's very hard to tell from that video but I don't think he was anywhere near 49. Low 51 would be my guess.

I've read some articles on Beach and he says he's "addicted" to the decathlon... that he wouldn't feel fulfilled just focusing on the 800.
If he is more motivated to do the decathlon, that's what he should do.
Though I agree he would do great if he focuses on the 8.

If that is true just imagine what he could if he increases his mileage and started training like an 800 guy. He obviously has at least 1:45 ability based on this. That much we can be sure of, but we can only speculate on what is true potential would be. I am willing to guess that it is at least in the 1:43 range. The guy is a mid-distance runner and just doesn't know it.
