As the 2012 outdoor season gets underway let's look at the potential for the 1500m Olympic team on the men's side.
Easiest way to start is to look at the 2011 team.
Matthew Centrowitz - looked good indoors
Leo Manzano - won indoor USATF and has already posted a 3:55 mile outdoors
Andrew Wheating - snowball cross training and fastest PR
Also has 'A' standard:
Lopez Lomong - Good 800 and 3000 indoors. Adjusted to new coaching
Others:
David Torrence
Russell Brown
Will Leer
Miles Batty
Kyle Miller
Dorian Ulrey
AJ Acosta
Alan Webb
Could someone make the team that is not in this list of 12?
I left Lagat out since he didn't take his 1500 spot last year but there is a chance something goes wrong in the 5000 and he takes a 1500m spot. He did have the fastest US 1500m time last year.
Right now I would say Centro, Manzano and Lomong for the team.
We'll see how things go leading up to the Trials.
There will likely be some upset who makes the team.
