Renato Canova Marathon Training???

I think it depends what level u are at.

I think a 2:18 runner...should do one 30 mile run 5 weeks out.

Amarathon specific block can be performed a few times.

i'm not certain how renato would suggest an average runner to introduce such methods

Here's another question. Take a look at Roger Rop's training leading up to his sub 60 1/2 marathon. Do u think some U.S marathoners can complete his program. If yes, why can't we run similar times.

A week taken from his schedule:

70' moderate progression average of about 5'40 pace

60' at 6'25 pace

80' at 5'50/mile

50' easy + 10 x 100m uphill sprints

10km in 34' + 10km in 31'06

10km in 34'20 + 10 x 1000 in 2'54 with 2' jog recovery

It seems as though most 2.20 marathoners maybe able to complete this work but the workouts such as 10 x 1km and 10km in 31' were made specifically for Rop as threshold and marathon pace work. You must also take into consideration that all this work was done at altitude but with proper adjustments for sea level and current ability almost anyone could complete this schedule.

If you put in a couple of years of this training maybe you can too, natural ability withstanding, perform at such a high level.
