There is a picture from the early stages of the 1983 Rocket City Marathon of Paul Gompers extending his hand to introduce himself to (Bryan Pownall?). B&W photo with both runners in mid-stride flight. Gompers with an aw'shucks grin and Pownall with the taken back I'm not touching that stare at the hand. Gompers set the Am Jr record that day by running 2:15:28; Pownall won in 2:14:17.

Kipruto and Vroemen were finishing the race in which they both qualified for the final in Athens 2004.
