Why is this?
Why is this?
And we hate 'em right back! Worthless hobby-jogging tools.
LRC is not a community that discusses running. LRC is a community of runners who discuss other things.
Other "running" communities like Runner's World are average people who go there to talk about running. They typically do not define themsleves as runners past the 26.2 sticker on their car. This is not a compliment or insult to either community, just a fact.
LRC is comprised of people who consider themselves serious runners, be that good or bad, true or untrue. I think of LRC much like going on a run with buddies. Yes, we are runners and often touch on the subject of running (such as recent races, professionals, etc), but for the most part we discuss other things.
It is true, bro. I found this.

Letsrun is 4chan for runners.
I don't go to other running forums so I don't really know what you're talking about, but if it's true then I think I have a pretty good idea where the hate comes from.
I would imagine that most other "runners" forums are primarily populated by hobby joggers. So is Letsrun. The difference is that Letsrunners don't know, or won't admit, they are hobby joggers. They think they're "serious" BAMFs, when they most certainly aren't - 99 times out of 100. So for some reason there is this sense of superiority amongst the Letsrun crowd, even though it is undeserved.
"Oh, what's that? You ran a 15:30 5k? That's nice. How fat is your Nike contract?"
I strained my hamstring/achilles tendon/whatever on a hard run this weekend. What should I do?
Typical LR response: "Take a few weeks off."
WTF is that all about?

See what I mean. We are talking EXPERT advice. Couldn't get THAT at any of those hobby jogger sites.!
There are no longer any elites on this site, save a brave few like Jaguar1 and Sage Canandy. But there are certainly a lot of very serious runners, whether they be school runners or age groupers. LRC is not for people who are looking for support when they try to break 4 hours or are trying to run their first marathon at 53 years old when they are 140 lbs overweight. LRC message boarders are also fairly knowledgeable about the sport, whether it be pro news, training or injuries. People who are new to the sport or do not learn about the sport the way LRC-ers do tend to get shouted down on this board, So, runnersworld is the safe place to go with family and friends, like Disney World. LRC is the back country hiking trip with no maps. Tons of fun, but not for the lighthearted.
I haven't been regularly for long, though I have been part of the "running scene" for about 15 years. That said, I've visited many different running forums.
I have enjoyed some of the threads on here, but the problem I see is that whoever the mods are here make it very frustrating for the readers. When I log on each day, I see dozens of new threads, most of which have nothing to do with running. And the responses to many of those are so "sophmoric" that it becomes a waste of time to even continue reading other responses.
Then, while those are left there, some with hundreds of responses, it seems whenever Dane R's name is mentioned, the thread is deleted. This truly gives this website little credibility when that happens.
And the final reason why I think people are turned off by this site is the lack of "acceptance" of other "hobby joggers". Even though I will be running in Boston this year, going by what qualifications I need to be to be included around here, I'm included in that "hobby jogger" category. If I'm in the top 10% of all marathon runners, which I know I am, then these boards must only be for the top 1%. But, I think we know that is probably not realistic to those that actually post on here.

Case and point.
Though, I'm sure a sophomore would be insulted by your reply.

You answered your own question. Prowling is anti-social behavior. You were caught prowling.

If you were even half witty with your responses I wouldn't mind getting into it with you, but since you're probably on your way to your high school remedial math class this period, I won't bother.
It's "case in point" you moron.

Careful there, throwing around the "you're so stupid you must still be in high school" defense.
"Case and point" is a nonsense phrase. You meant to say, "case in point."
I frequent another CIVIL running forum and letsrun NEVER comes up in conversation. I'm sure not going to tell them I come here.
