The piece on the front page claims this woman misses the qualifying standard because "lapped runners wouldn't get out of her way." It doesn't say that in the article. it does say she moved to lane 4 to go around them. Does that mean they were running three wide??!!
While overseas in the 70's and 80's, i had the opportunity to "race" many top names in distance running, because of the club set up. They ALWAYS said, if you are about to be lapped, hold your ground so that we know where you're going to be. Nothing worse than the possibility of moving out and knocking that runner off their feet. If you want to blame somebody, blame organizers for having such disparity within one race. It wasn't like she was smashing a world best here.
