Edward Cheserek and Jacob Burcham will have a shot at 4:00 tomorrow in NYC at the armory. Cheserek has already run 4:02.2 for the mile and Burcham has run 4:07.2. Predictions???

4:07 is not as close to 4 flat as you think. not gonna happen for burcham

Seconded, there is no way Burcham breaks four this year, especially indoors. Cheserek has been destroying just about everybody this year though, wouldn't surprise me to see him break Alan Webb's Armory record. (The real question is could present-day Alan Webb break his Armory record?)
Cheserek seemed to be in shape back in the fall for sub 4 when he ran 2:55 for the opening 1200m at Van Cortlandt Park and then held on to run sub 12 for 4K.
Thousands of 15 year old Kenyan males could crack 4 for the indoor mile. What exactly is the big deal here?

Cheserek has a shot
Burcham will be dropped
yawn...move on please. wrote:

The deal here is that it might be a new high school record
Zero chance he goes sub-4 tomorrow. On friday he split a hard 1600 in 4:07 (only hard because he went out in 54) to win the DMR, today he split 1:50.5 to win the SMR, and he might be going for Lindgren's indoor 2-mile record, which will be run just 80 minutes before the mile. Both he and his coach have said he might not even run the mile tomorrow. He may win the mile if he does run it, but his legs will be dead, so no way he goes sub-4
too much inaccuracy on this thread
There is NO way this mile goes any faster than 4:05 if Ches even runs the mile
he ran 4:07.6 Friday and 1:51.3 today not 1:50.5
he probably coasts the two mile tomorrow and probably does run the mile and win
he is absurd, best HS'er ever including Webb, his two mile+ is the edge, if he and Ben Malone ever ran 1000M at same time they would probably break Andrews record
ben Malone split 1:50.2 today
In the SMR, junior ben malone split 1:49 high. He also ran 9:12 for the full 2 mile earlier this season. He definitely has a shot at sub 4 next year outdoors. Him and Burcham could have some good races next year.
By the way, Burcham does have a shot at Cheserek tomorrow if Cheserek decides to run the 2 mile hard and try to break the record. Otherwise, Cheserek destroys him. Neither will break 4 though.

I had him at just under 1:50. Apparently, the official split for him way 1:50.2 though. I still think he could have ran under 1:50 if he wasn't in lane 2 for the entire last 400.

Are you saying that Cheserek is better than Webb?
I don't completely understand why people make such a big deal out of Cheserek (I do actually, but they're kind of wrong). He's an 18 yr. old junior from Kenya. He's run relatively (to other high schoolers) fast. Fine. Seems like a nice guy. Cool.
But compare him to other top 18 yr. old Kenyans and there is no comparison. (i.e. Kipchoge at 18 running 12:52 -- 13:57 Cheserek's best -- and winning the World Championship over the best mid-distance and distance runners, respectively, who ever lived; or Isiah Koech running 12:53 indoors at 17. That's over A MINUTE (not a second) faster than Cheserek, and a year younger!)
And there are countless others from Kenya who have run much, MUCH faster than Cheserek as teenagers.
So we make a big deal out of him because he was plucked out of Kenya and brought to run here against far less experienced, skilled runners. Do you see how much of this is over-hyped, when you look at the grand scheme?
Is he better than Webb? If by that you mean running 3:53 at age 18 or 3:46 ever in his life, no, I'd say that's a long-shot.
This never happened.

The difference between Cheserek running 13:57 at 18 and Koech running 12:53 at 17 is that Koech was really about 25 years old.

Does Koech really look like he's a year younger than Cheserek?

We should bring those faster Kenyans over here, then the high school records would be even faster! That's an awesome idea. I agree.
Exactly. I'm sick of hearing people say Cheserek is an age cheater. He looks like an 18 year old, and for an 18 year old Kenyan his times really shouldn't arouse much suspicion...They're very good, but I mean just look at Koech...
What time is the mile race today?
