What's the best run in the worst conditions?
What's the best run in the worst conditions?
not quite a wr, but morceli ran 13'03 in zurich in shitty weather with 51s last lap !!!
wr at time was geb's 12'56
morceli couda gone 12'55 that day in better weather with some ambitious pacing
generally, not too many wrs run in poor weather ( that's what shitty weather does ! )
i'd imagine you'd have to dig back to the 50s/60s to find some.
but best run in worst conditions probably belongs to a cross country race.

Hmmm
I placed a bet for Bolt in Olympics 2--8 after he set 100m WR on wet track (since beat twice) before. You never normally see records on a wet track especially on the sprints
1978 Henry Rono sets the World Record in the steeplechase 8:05.
Cold, wet, rainy in front of 500 brave souls.
Bolt ran the second fastest 300 ever in the rain in 30.97
1967 1500m Jim Ryun vs Kip Keino. It was quite hot.

Morcelis last lap was 52s, conditions were very good for the 5k.
But on that day Mutola run her lifetime PB of 1:55,19 some 1 or 2 hours before in really terrible weather conditions with even someone hindering here in her lane. Should be something like 1:54,5 I think.
Maybe Henry Rono 5000m 81 in Knarvik?
I recall reading that Ron Clarke's 10k WR of 27:39 was set on a windy day.
When Coughlin ran 3:49i for the mile it was about 20 degrees outside.
