Any good loops and/or trails in Sea Isle?
Any good loops and/or trails in Sea Isle?
Pretty much up and down the beach is your best bet. However, you can run south on the beaches to run over the bridge that goes over the inlet, which puts you into Avon. From there, you can take Ocean Drive to Avon Blvd. to Rte. 9 (Shore Drive), hang a right and then head north back to Sea Isle (make sure you hang another right onto Sea Isle Blvd). It's probably a 13 or 14 mile run depending on where you start from.
Look out for Tito Carroll. He is on the prowl on the streets of Sea Isle.
agree about running on the beach. at low tide there's plenty of firm sand, very little slope. end-to-end of the island is about 12 miles, or as the other poster says you can run across the bridge to the south and run thru Avalon (not Avon)... there's water at the public tennis courts, and you'll need it, always humid, almost 100% in the sun. There's also a water fountain on the boardwalk at the public restrooms about a half mile north of the life guard HQ (44th or so). I would avoid route 9, i've run that as well, it's almost all on shoulders, open sun, cars going by at 70...not fun.
If you're there 8/7, the ten mile beach run is a classic, at least 30 years old, lots of spectators on the beach/boardwalk, 1100 or so runners, open air bars on the beach afterwards. Great time.
Great place to run! Make sure that you get out there when the sun isn't at its worst because there is not much shade and I usually get burnt. I usually do between 15-20 miles there on Sundays at a strong pace.
Thanks for the information. I think I will stay with the beaches.
Sea Isle City is a horrible place to train over the summer. All out and back runs with absolutely no hills. If you are planning on doing over 50 miles a week i wouldn't recommend it.
there's a cool 10-miler there in august i think, one of the first weekends... its not fast, because the second 5 miles is on the beach i think, but it looks like a cool race, pretty big. the cr is like 52 i think too so its not that slow.
settle down kane. you havent run 15-20 miles there in an entire summer let alone one sunday...but yeah, he's right about the lack of shade. if you're irish you're screwed...
why do they call you big daddy?
A few things to try to help (I went there for vacation for a long time):
-20 blocks equal a mile (Sea Isle goes from 1st to 93rd...From 1st street to the top of the Ocean City bridge is just over 1.5 miles)
-Boardwalk is just under 1.5 miles long
-Early in the morning or at dusk are the best times to run with regards to weather, otherwise there is NO shade. It will get very crowded in town from about 10AM until 2AM, so I suggest early in the morning (start around 7-8 AM)
-The only hills are the bridges out of town (to Avalon or Ocean City) and they are not very big
The race everyone is referring to is called the "Tim Kerr Run." I have never done it but have heard good things about it.
The Sea Isle 10 Miler is Saturday August 7th (mostly on the beach 7 miles with 3 on the promenade) and as the name would suggest, it is in Sea Isle.
The Tim Kerr 7 mile Island run is on Saturday Sept. 4 and is in Avalon, all on the streets.
Avoid running on Ocean Drive near the center of town (35th-45th streets), it is very crowded.
Running out and back on the beach at low tide is usually your best bet for long runs as there is generally a breeze.
For hill running, you are out of luck. Your best bets as previously mentioned are the bridges into Ocean City or Avalon, but one that I think is a little longer and steeper is the bridge from the mainland into Sea Isle.
For trails, I've seen some in Dennis Township (the town on the Mainland) when driving on some of the back roads, but I've never run on them.
Running at the jersey shore sucks most of the time
i go from Ocean city through strathmere into Sea Isle on the weekends...not a terrible run, Ocean Drive? i think the roads called?
drive 10-15 minutes inland and you can find some decent trails, especially in the tuckahoe area
Yeah Gandaulf, you had a great summer of training there I believe. Really came into the xc season in peak condition.
Yeah but he did have a great set of abs. I think this summer he settled for a 10hr/week 5.05 an hour job as well as some quality time with the princess in mario go kart.
I saw Carroll running the promenade on Sunday. Why is he wearing headphones???
Tim Carroll one time through a shoe at his girlfriend because she wouldnt make out with him while in elementary school. Dont ask these questions. He likes his beats.
you meant threw right?
Lotsa female lifeguards in skin tight swim suits.
For you male pole polishing runners there are male lifeguards for you.
yes it is run on the beach when the tide is out.
The sand is very hard and not as slow as I thought it would be.
A race you will never forget.
