But he was outkicked by the virtually unknown James Gurr.
Symmonds ran 1:48 in Melbourne, Sure, it's March Nick, not August!

Stick a fork in him, he's done.
Time to retire? -
Dont think so...but to make Olympic finals will be very difficult for him.
-
i saw him about a month ago on the track with the other otc crew. he's just not in good shape yet. plain and simple. you people need to chill out.
-
David Rudisha.
And so, it begins... -
Symmonds didn't go all the way to Melbourne because he planned on running 1:48. He travelled all that way cause he thought he could run. He has got to be doubting himself now. He is in trouble.
-
It would make him #11 on the NCAA 800 indoor list...WITHOUT the adjustment from outdoors.

You are correct. He went there for extended training in better weather. -

Nick himself seem to think otherwise:

Another terrible race tonight. I'd be worried if I didn't have one of the wisest coaches in the game. I know Row will find the problem! -
Symmonds may not have won the race, but he did START, RUN, and FINISH the race, and tried his best.
That's what real men do.
Unlike Solinskrap. -
Better to run your bad races now and work on any problems than when late summer roles around.

Until that tweet from Nick himself, I thought maybe he was working on overdistance and not speed. But it sounds like Nick is indeed having problems.
I see Charles Jock from time to time at the UCI track--very nice kid I might add. Nick does indeed have something to worry about. I think Jock is going to come to the OT as a 1:43 guy and right now, I think I'd bet on Jock winning the OT 800, not Symmonds.
Jock
Andrews
Ryan Martin (UC Santa Barbara)
Loxsom
Maybe not all of them quite this year, but just a matter of time now. -
1:48 is reason enough to be concerned, but I certainly wouldn't panic at this point if I'm Nick Symmonds. He knows he's a 1:43-1:44 guy when everything is clicking, and things just haven't started clicking yet. Just be patient, trust your coach, and believe in yourself. The talent is there. Keep working.

I agree with you on Jock, I think Jock and Cas are the future of the 800 in the U.S. Andrews will perhaps always be an 800/mile type, but he will opt for the mile when it really counts as in the USOT. As a 47/48 400m runner, there is a practical limit to how fast you are ever going to run an 800. Andrews, Symmonds, Wheating, etc., stay off the pace in fast 800s because they have to; going out in in 50 point would be like sprinting to them. I think Andrews can be a consistent 1:43 800m runner which is still pretty fast. The rumor is he's not in great shape right now, but once he returns to form, I would not be suprised to see him drop a 3:35 in his first pro 1500. -

You need to get a grip. Your obsession with Chris Solinsky is bizarre and more than a little creepy. Should he be worried about his family's safety? I'm not kidding. -

Not saying that he wasn't disappointed/concerned. Some of his workouts have not gone as well as anticipated.
I would agree that Coach R will likely straighten things out.
Trials will be interesting. -

Was Symmonds decision to use himself as an advertisement the kiss of death??
-
Sprintgeezer is right. It is next to impossible to root for solinskrap after multiple DNFs and phantom pushes off the track.
-
Hey, look at the bright side, at least he's running faster than Alan Webb. Symmonds will turn it around in time, relax people.
