Any update on the Running magazine feature on him. I read here that he is married and coaching now. What injury did he really have? The article wasn't clear what was really wrong with him or is it they just don't know. With so many runners doing crazy amounts of training, there must be others out there with similar injury. Poor kid had so much going for him. It must eat him up a bit when he sees Rupp out there racing.

Josh got married last summer and became a full-time assistant coach @ Liberty University.
Yes, it was not really clear what problem he had. He talked about loosing coordination with his leg. People can say it was mileage, but there have been many more people to run more than Josh did. I think he is the assistant coach at Liberty now. It doesn't seem like he is trying to train to be competitive right now.

Definitely the hyperbolic time chamber use did him in.

He would be stuck in there forever if he did. Since he is coaching at liberty, he must have not gone over the 48hr limit. I'm not sure how long he spent in there though.
Naw man, I heard he just yelled real hard, burst an interdimentional hole, and flew out. This explains his recent turn to coaching so that he can exploit his newfound yelling prowess. Boy, I certainly wouldn't want to be standing next to him on the sidelines when his boys are racing!
It is intriguing. Home schooled kid who ran 8:09 for Indoor 3k and went to a school like Liberty. NCAA XC Champ and 13:17 for 5000.
Yep. Loss of coordination. Same thing that got Ian Edwards. You can run with it. But you can't run anywhere near your ability.
he got the "loss of coordination in leg" injury. Look at the thread titled the same on letsrun. The only cure is rest, sometimes it takes years. Nate Jenkins has the same thing and has been trying to push through it with very limited succes despite surgery. He needs to take a year off running and go hike and let his body rebalance itself.
I should add that the loss of coordination issue happens to people who push too hard too fast. Its a muscular/neuro thing and is a BITCH to deal with. I think that if you get it on the competetive level (i.e. college or professional) it is a career ender because it takes alot of time off to deal with it and athletes on that level just arent going to do that. Not to mention you might be able to run fine and it only pops up 10 miles into a tempo so unlike a hamstring strain you can't self diagnose easily.
Anyway as someone who has had it and beat it I predict that him and Jenkins are done, and this is without malice, they were my two favorite runners back in the day.
I don't even really understand that injury. Look at someone like Gerry Lindgren. He ran 2-3x the amount Josh was running, and he never had a weird injury like that. It must stink to get it because it seems rare.
