how about a sub 8:50 guy?
We have a winner. There is a big difference between a sub 850 and sub 9 and a big difference between 9 and 910. Now sometimes the difference gets obscured by racing conditions but in terms of talent level, it's vast.
Running is a big bell curve.
I don't think people realize how many sub-9s there are out there. Last year, there were 20 sub 9 seniors listed on dyestat plus some more equivalents in the 3k so roughly 25.
But if you go out to say 9:05 range it doubles (43 sub 906s). If you go to 915 there are more than 100 seniors.
A sub 9 guy is good but what did he do as a junior. The person talking about winning races is correct. Also what they do as a junior is key as the scholarships go out before senior year track season.
In terms of say sub 415 or 915 juniors, there are a ton. In terms of guy that are top 25 in the region at Footlocker or sub 415/915 as a junior, there were roughly 150 guys. That's a lot.
