The next thing you know, you'll be telling us that you decided to stop stretching because there is no evidence that it helps prevent injury! GET OUT!
I hear there's training you can do that doesn't even require you to run. You should check into that.
1/10.
Did you get your 6.5 hours last nite??????????????
Yeah. Did you?
I quit with that silliness a long time ago. Stretching too. What a joke. And I surely don't do any "core" exercises.
I just run. Slow at first and faster as I warm up. I run until I am tired. I then rest until I am ready to run again. Pretty simple. If you are getting injured, you are either doing something too fast or something else for not long enough. You figure it out.
I agree with you. The lactic acid removes itself at the beginning of your next run quite easily. There really is no scientific reason for a cool down. In addition, continuing to run after fully exhausting the muscles in a speed workout is only asking for injury. It is like leg pressing 500 lbs and then going for a jog after.
I only cool down if I feel like it or if I want to get home from my intervals site faster than walking would take me.

God damn you are stupid. This is completely wrong. The amount of lactic acid that is removed depends on you doing a cool down or not. If you do a cool down you remove a lot of lactic acid already there, instead of having your body having to deal with it itself. There is scientific reason AND more importantly a lot of experience from thousands of top athletes. An athlete perform better on the next work out if he cool down, its proven.
Bullshit about the injury part, an easy cool down does not give you an injury no matter what.
Damn, some of you guys are just so confident without having a clue about what you are talking about.
I decided to start inserting pine-cones into my rectum. I'm not sure how that will help my running though.
A couple of years ago there was a British article that said that the best way to cool down and recover after a hard workout was to add 4-5 fast strides to the cooldown.
I tried it a couple of times, but can't say whether I saw any difference. But I do know that if you jog long enough after a killer race or workout you do start to feel better.

This is true. If i have had a hard race/workout with alot of lactid acid i take about 10 somewhat fast strides. I've also tested out the 4-5 even faster strides. It works. I've talked to top 1500m runners and they do this very often, sometimes only 12 strides after a race and thats it, often a 5 min jog too.
Renato Canova does not believe in cool-downs either. He states the point after a workout is to get your HR down and you can do that by walking 5 min to you car, etc. Note that Africans will never cool-down (other than a victory lap), but they will always warm-up dynamically for some time.

I trained with Ethiopians and they did the dynamic warm down afterwards
They did warm ups and down very slowly though. I noticed a lot of Europeans warm down unnecessarily fast

Please, I need to see where Canova spoke of this, thanks in advance.
How does jogging clear lactate any faster than resting?

By providing a filter to help lactic acid leave via the back door. I did this and went from an 18 minute to a 23 minute 5k overnight!
I just did an 18 miler on the treadmill while watching the track meet yesterday and my cooldown consisted of laying on the floor for 5 minutes until I caught my breath,(ran the last couple miles faster) getting a drink of water, and taking a shower. I feel great today even though I didn't use any pine cones.
