Galen Rupp would likely have been in 8th place in this race, and yet the Rupp fanboys have no interest in it. This is an excellent effort by Longosiwa. Not to be overlooked is Yitayal Atnafu, who officially turned 19 a couple weeks ago, and here ran an excellent 13:04. Another Ethiopian star?

maybe the rupp fanboys aren't interested because they're rupp fanboys... and he's not in the race

What is your problem? Seriously, what is your problem?
Folks who are hoping for great things from Rupp are generally Americans who are hoping that somehow an American might medal in a distance event sometime in our lifetimes. Many of them don't really follow the Ethiopians or Kenyans. I am having a hard time seeing what is wrong with that.

It is fine that you have a narrow interest in Americans in the sport. Why don't you beat your chest and sing the "Star Spangled Banner" while Galen struggles to his 8:17 tomorrow?

err...
if you had more than a "narrow interest" in the sport, the pertinent observation wouda been that isiah, the great white hope of the kenyans for 5k, got hammered by 4s
that by far is the biggest story of this week "globally"

Ventolin, I am not surprised by this, and so to me it is not the big takeaway, but because you are not as smart as I, it is OK for this to cause you to furrow your brow.
hmmm...
shit for brains

Yes, you are correct in thinking that no one in the US gives a shit that another no name East African is running world beating times in their first race ever on the pro circuit.
Seriously though wrote:

IF they do not care, they are NOT fans of the sport, which is fine.
probably 4th or 5th place.
News just in. Kenya have now decided that Longosiwa is only 14 years old.
This is an incredible performance.

You have failed on pretty much every conceivable level.
I do not have a narrow interest in Americans. The fact that you make such a claim identifies you as ignorant.
As far as singing the "Star Spangled Banner" that is not something that I am inclined to do. So I suppose that answers your moronic question.
And finally, Galen struggling to a 8:17 - well I suppose that is possible. It does not matter to me one way or the other.
Now that you have been exposed as a moron perhaps you could show yourself to be capable of addressing the question - What is your problem?
Hey, thanks in advance moron.
You are the one who has failed. An epic fail. I have no problem. You're the one who makes ASSumptions.

Rupp likely would have been 5th at worst actually. I agree it's a great race by Longosiwa, but you're way off on Rupp and there's no reaon to even say that. The only thing that matters is Rupp keeps progressing, he can't and won't be the best over night, and probably never will be, but every step he makes towards that is the most anyone can hope for, and is something amazing, and something most of us 10 years ago thought we'd never see. Why not be interested in someone who's working their butt off to try to be the best in the world. I'd never knock anyone for trying, or those for supporting those that try.
The difference between 5th and 7th is only 1.6 seconds. You guys are arguing about a small difference in time. Based on passed performances Rupp between 5th and 8th is all that you should expect. 8th meaning closer to the time for 7th and far ahead of the 8th place time.
I thought this thread Longosiwa?
Funny thread here! You guys crack me up.
I'm a nerd for sure, but I love to follow the action of the Ethiopians and Kenyans. I'm staggered by the depth, hard to keep track but I do because I like to handicap the big summer meets and the worlds and Olympics before the action starts. Did I mention I am a nerd? Yes I did.
I simply like to know who the contenders are and what they have done.
I'm also a fan of Rupp. He's had his ups and downs but he is a great runner. I have a tendency to remind people that he out-kicked Merga in Birmingham last summer in a 5,000 where he finished 2nd to Mo Farah.
I don't love or hate the guy, I'm not judging his personality, I just appreciate his achievements.
OK I should admit I competed against Al Salazar in high school, he lived one town over, so I guess I'm a Salazar supporter. Sure he's an unusual coach, but he is a man of stellar achievements and great integrity.
Paul Koech, steeplechaser, was third in 13:02. That bodes well for his season. Haron Lagat, ex. Texas Tech runner, took them out in 5:09 for 2k!
