Check out this 60m field; I assume they will run 2 races of 8 runners each:
Wallace Spearmon - PR of 6.70, 4 years ago!
Darvis Patton - PR of 6.58, 9 years ago!
Churandy Martina
Shawn Crawford - he is STILL running?!
Lerone Clarke
Ivory Williams
Richard Thompson
Justin Gatlin
Trell Kimmons
Gerald Phiri
Mookie Salaam
Kimmari Roach
Brandon Byram
Justin Warner
Mark Burns
Jared Connaughton
I like maybe Thompson, Warner, and Kimmons, although this one is too close to call!
It will be interesting to see how the Americans who matter will measure up against each other: Williams, Gatlin, Kimmons, and Salaam.
The other Americans, Spearmon, Patton, and Crawford should provide some comic relief--it is great to see them in the mix, and in the 60m, you never know, someone could get lucky.
Also the Canadians Connaughton and Warner will see some international competition in the likes of international also-rans Clarke, Burns, Roach, Phiri, and Martina.
I love the fact that this is an international field, and that we will get to see guys running the 60m who we never really get to see run against each other.
I wish that in a meet like this, there were 2 semi's and a final, or better yet, that each section would get to run 2 60m races. Maybe there are semi's and a final, I'm not sure.
This will be GREAT, as far as I'm concerned the mix of athletes is a real crowd-pleaser for the sprint afficionado.
Plus, Fayetteville tends to be fast, even though it's not at altitude.
I'd like to see Thompson, Gatlin, and Connaughton to do well, in particular.
