Frist off they have a sight that the public can use to ask them questions. Not sure of the adress, but I am sure you can get it off of google.
As to the speed aspect of there training. It makes since that if you have someone. Who is only going to run, 50 miles a week. That the harder they run that 50 miles the better they are going to profrom. Is your not willing to but in the miles, then you have to train harder. Or your not going to run up to your potental. Only a fool, or someone looking for an easy result. Will accept the idea that you can run easy, and run short. And then run up to your bodys limmit come race day. The Hanson bros. seem to know there stuff. And I do not know what the reasons are, or the science behind there long runs. But I know that they have some pritty good reasons for thinking based on science, that your long run need only be a % of your weekly milage.
Hadd knows his stuff two, and has a good system also. It all comes down to dooing the type of training that feels right for your body. And also the doing the type of training that you can, do at the highest level given your life style.
