So, I have a young runner who is low on iron, and he takes one iron pill a day. Problem is, I want him to either take 2-3 pills a day (Standard iron pills you can buy at Wal-Mart) or get on liquid iron, and his Dr. says that will cause iron toxicity.
From what I heard, as a runner, it is very hard to OD on iron. One would have to take half an iron pill bottle to do so. I heard one elite runner takes 12 a day at altitude.
Yes, that runner is a different guy, etc, but I'm sure it applies to saying my runner could take 1-2 more iron pills a day, than his current 1.
I do understand I'm naive on the topic, but love to hear some people's knowledge on the topic. All advice is GREATLY appreciated.
