(Fresh) Apples Taste Like Alcohol?

I used to work in a produce department. We would frequently wipe down fruit at night with rubbing alcohol to ward off fruit flies. I guessed they used too much. If you go blind at least you'll know why.

Yep. Had some myself and everyone thinks I'm crazy. I even Googled this question because I didn't want to believe I'm the only one.

Guess I can understand the person who answered alcohol pads. I was thinking that myself, or some kind of ascorbic acid was used to keep them fresh, as mine were cut for a platter.

Apples aren't exactly fresh this time of year. Unless you're getting them in the fall, they're often stuck in freezers until shipped to markets. Are you sure it was a honey crisp and not a winesap?
