I want to train for the mile and 5k at the same time. I plan on doing maybe 2 or 3 track mile races in the summer and also a 2-3 5ks on the road.
Can anyone give me advice on how to train/specialize for both distances? My initial thought was to have two workouts a week with one focusing on the mile and the other focusing on 5k. Basically shorter reps for mile and longer reps for 5k.
The hard part is my peak mile race is early July. My peak 5k race is mid august. But - I plan on running a 5k also in June. And I might run a mile in august if I am feeling good.
How does one peak for shorter race before the longer race and then hold that peak for a 1.5 months? Seems tricky to me. It's laid out this way because that's just when the races are.
