He is starting a worldwide petition for inclusion of the HALF marathon at the 2016 olympics. I think he will succeed at this.
I do not think it is wise that you can qualify for a marathon trials without actually running a marathon.
That should be changed.
I agree with you, although Andrew Carlson ran great in his first marathon and Abdi would not of been in the race to grab third.

Seriously? I hadn't heard about this. Including a half marathon could sap the strength of both the 10k and the marathon, so I don't think I'd be in favor of this.
He's the Alistair Cragg of US marathoning.

Are you kidding? There will be probably 5 kenyans under an hour who won't even make the 2016 Olympics in any event.

The fact that other people can run a quick half marathon doesn't mean that the top marathon or 10k contenders might not still opt for the half instead. Rather than adding a half marathon, I'd rather just see the Olympics adopt an automatic standard, such as 2:06 or so, such that if you can break the time, you're automatically invited, regardless of how many other people your country is sending.
What's Tadese's PR, like 2:12?
This is true. Not everyone can be a good marathoner. I can kick ass at 10K and the half...but the full marathon I totally suck.
Ricky Flynn qualified with a 64 half marathon...ran 2:13 for his debut today and got 12th. Half Marathon qual isn't the worst thing to have been implemented.
Plenty of debutants ran well today. Mo and Olinger sucked it up, though. But seriously, was anyone expecting anything different? Mo, who runs like a moron 100% of the time, and Olinger, who's never raced further than 7mi before?

I like the idea about an auto standard but I don't think it has to be one or the other. I would like to see both implemented. The runners are still going to run the race they think gives them the best shot of winning. It won't hurt the competitiveness any.
The marathon is the only road race( other than tri 10k). I would love to see another road distance., even a 10k road and HM added.

How about a road 100k?

Mo Trafech knows what he is doing. Mo is gaining experience. Next OT he will have more experience in the half marathon for the next OT. It is all part of his future plans. Experience is very important in our sport and perseverance is the key to get there. Indeed, Mo Trafic has it all under control.
No.
I've always been more of a Mo Farah fan. When is he going to run for us Amurikans?
You guys on this board know a lil sumthin about training, and weekend races, and that's it. When it comes to big time racing, you don't know squat! You gotta be with the big boys to have a chance. That old time thing about the guy coming back to you pretty much happens at weekend races amd HS. At this level, it rarely happens.
Ask Ritz about it. Coming close to pulling that off, is a nice story line, but don't count for anything. You have to suck it up and be there, when someone is trying to break you.
To understand modern distance running , just look at the world cross country champs. An african crew goes out at an ungodly four o something first mile. And guess what you would imagine people will get caught later. Yeah, like maybe one guy out of the crew, gets caught.
Trafeh is going to be good because he has the mindset to run with wild abandon. Hastings, too, that's the type of moxie you have to have to do anything in this sport on a world class level. I pity the dweebs who trained so long and hard, to run conservative from the first mile just to finsh eleventh or twelfth.

I suspect that closing off 100km of roads around London or anywhere in reasonable distance of a Olympic host city could be a problem. Of course you could get them to run ten times around a 10km loop, but who would watch?
It would be easy to add a 20km road race, since they already need a course for the 20km road walk.
not HAVE been in the race. Jesus
