Is "Understanding MACD" by Gerald Appel and Edward Dobson a good book on the subject? The chartist stuff is foreign to me.

My system came up w/ the same signal - buy SPY on Friday 12/1/6 close

We went to long bonds TLT in early August, ended 2011 +18%.

What the heck is SPY? I am generally a stock/mutual fund guy but bonds have outpeformed equities since 1980 - also - picking individual stocks is fruitless - you really don't know that?

Those gains were mostly prior to August....$117 on 8/5, now $118.

For the record, this signal has only been wrong 2 times out of 17 trades since 1960. The biggest loss was 14.29% in 1973 during a period when Buy & Hold lost 23.35%. This includes dividends.

is the buy signal the inverse of your sell signal or a different mechanism? How accurate has the sell signal been compared to the buy signal?

Please admit that it would have been better to buy after the weekend if Aug 21 then wait for this week.

At least this isn't the highest the market has been in a year.

Just the highest in 6 months.

I'm not going to chase this thread like the other one.

There is still a lot to be gained buying right now.

But so much was missed not buying the last 4.5 months.

Buying sounds good. Just quite, quite late.

I have owned Baidu ( BIDU ) for about 3 years. I bought it at a split-adjusted price of $20. It is currently trading for $121. Im happy that picking indiv stocks is fruitless

good thing u didnt BUY when your signal went off.. SPY futures down half a percent tonight. and sinkig.

I bought TZA at 25.00 Friday 1,000 shares, up about $500 bucks so far.. see you tomorrow.

we'll see a lot of money and intervention pushed on the market to try to prop it up this year; big elections in us and france. we'll continue to have headwinds, though, and eventually the system will break down.

trying to predict the intermediate term is impossible, though, of course.
