Alright, I've had a friend who's been having problem in his shin splints for well over 4 months. During the last mile of our 4th invite of the season, he began feeling them. The following workout the next day he sat out half of the workout.
Over the next half of the season, he was consistently having problems with them, wearing shin guards to help ease the pain. He sat out two meets during the course of the season. His last race was the state meet on October 29th and has ran barely any mileage since.
After the season ended, he went to see a orthopedic doctor who noted some problems in his form that may have caused the shin splints. He got new shoes, went under extensive physical therapy and took a number of months off. He doesn't run anymore, but still feels the discomfort when walking around the house.
He claims that the pain is on the inside part of the leg, more on the lower part of the leg than high. He probably could've ran under or near the 16:00 minute mark if said shin splints didn't occur.
We're running out of options, and he doesn't know what to do, so I'm giving a last shot effort here on letsrun. Any comments, ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
