Rupp does not start.
Everything comes together for Ritz Winning in 2:07:55 . Hall and Meb 30 seconds back.
The women go through the Half in 1:16 in a huge pack. Shalane, Desi and Kara break away while Deena holds back and picks off Kara at the end. Shalne wins in 2:26:50
Nothing interesting or unexpected happens.
There will be plenty of fluids for Meb at each station.

1:16/1:11 splits? Yowzah!
Both mens' & womens' races will be among the greatest trials races in recent memory. Packs of 5 in each race will trade blows & lead changes from miles 16-26 (this due to the favorites coming down with illnesses the week of the race that makes them go all-out just to hope for a spot).
Unfortunately, the 2-hour television coverage will miss all of the amazing dynamics by focusing on pre-scripted feel-good stories, and showing the opposite race whenever the action is happening.

I'll join you there.

If it goes out in 1:16 and Deena doesn't respond to the break, she can not make the team.
Deena and Amy need to get it rolling early for them to have any chance. I think that Rhines is only in the race for that purpose. I think the women will go out in 1:13:30-1:14. Shalane will drop at 19 miles. Desi will win in 2:24:50 and Kara will be second in just under 2:26. Amy will outkick Deena for third in about 2:28.
Hall will take the lead at about 10 miles and never look back winning in 2:09:45. Ritz, Mo and Meb will all try to cover the move and PAY for it. Mo and Ritz both DNF. Rupp will not start as this is all just a ploy. Eggleston will lead the chase pack that will real in a suffering Meb. Morgan and Lehmkuhle will finish together in 2nd in 2:11:55.
Hall 2:08:55
Meb 2:09:23
Rupp 2:09:54
Davilla 2:25:00
Goucher 2:25:02
Flannagan 2:26:59
REEL.

I agree but I think Rupp will start and make his decision during the race. I'd love to see it come together for Ritz.
I don't think Deena is going to make it- she's had a great career.
Hall-2:08:05, Rupp-2:08:55, Trafeh-2:10:10.
Davila-2:24:45, Flanagan-2:26:02, Hastings-2:26:14.
Tera Moody runs a 2:29 ( a new PR for her) and narrowly misses making the team in 4th place.

You know that she is hurt?
times will be nowhere that fast
I am in the predicting business...
Sat 1/14
cloudy, rain, highs in the 60's
warm winds from the south
Sun 1/15
clear, dry, temps 45 to 50
cooler, gustier winds from the NNW
So the men's trial winner might be 2:10:30
the women 2:27:30
Kara poops in her pants---comes in 12th.
Michael Wardian leads at some point in the first 5K, but places outside of the top 10.
She got hurt again? Tera Moody? She was fine this summer when we saw her. I hope she's not hurt again. She had that foot surgery almost a year ago and seemed to be doing much better.
I like mcgato's prediction from another thread,
he said...
"My prediction of what we will see:
--They will keep their canned opening sequence, which will include 20 minutes of silly background profiles.
--They will keep the laborious starting line intros, including the entire national anthem.
--They will show the first mile of both races.
--They will skip the next 22 miles of both races and show the last few miles of each race.
--They will keep the 20 minutes of post race interviews."
NBC will have a two hour tape delay on Sat 1/14 at 3:00pm ET
2:00pm Houston time
I expect Al Trautwig to give some overblown, heavily narrated story of the immigrants, the Kenyan, Polish, Nigerian and Romanian woman who came to America yearning to breathe free.
The history of past Olympians like Meb and Deena.
A profile of Linda Somer-Smith who will be running in her 7th Olympic Marathon Trials and I agree, first mile will be shown and then last 5 minutes of men's race, last 6 minutes of women's race, lots of post race smiling and hugging and then some exhausted women running 2:50 to finish as we see
them collapse across the line.
No, I didn't write the script, but someone at NBC already has.
Rupp will be near the starting line warming up with his mask on, and then right before the gun goes off he won't start and might decide instead to run the Houston Marathon the next day.
It's all a ploy
