They announced they would be shutting down like two months ago and recommended people export their training logs...
Where did they announce this? I logged on every few days and NEVER saw any such announcement!
These threads are very common around here - some well known online running log closes unexpectedly or crashes and data is lost.
I never get why people dont backup regularly OR just use a spreadsheet. david hayes has a great one that does most everything you could want - it tracks multiple shoe miles, weight, etc...
Here's copied and pasted from an email a month ago they sent.
"Strands Fitness Community Members,
Thank you for using Strands Fitness to track and share your fitness activity. Over 1.6 million workouts have been shared with our members throughout the world.
Unfortunately, the Strands Fitness training log will be shutting down on December 30, 2011. It has been a very fun and exciting last 3 years and we wish you continued success out on the roads and trails.
We encourage you to save your data and export your training log as soon as possible. Go to your account preferences and follow the easy download and export instructions.
Please send us an email at
if you have any questions.
Happy training,
Strands Fitness"
DailyMile is where it's at. I don't know why people bothered with Strands.
Yes, some famous runners were on there but they rarely posted workouts. Strands had a horrible user interface. Dailymile is easy to understand, looks polished and it just makes sense from day one. It's also highly social. You actually get to know other runners (instead of just cutting people down on letsrun), share training and encourage one another.
That's why DM has been successful and keeps adding users. I know people are going to poo poo DM as being for "hobby joggers" but I don't care. It's a great tool and there are apps that you can use to post workouts to it from your phone as well.
Ugh I just checked - this got bounced into my spam folder and I never got it. JESUS.
Guess they gave away too many free shirts?

How do you add additional shoes? I go through more than 5 pair a year. I can add them in the 'setup' tab but can't get more to show in the drop down boxes on the 'lab' tab.
Thanks
