So, last Saturday, I ran my first 400m for the season. All of my times have improved from last season except my 400m. My 800m dropped from 2:15 to 2:05. My mile dropped from 6:01 to 4:58. And I ran my first year of Cross Country. With this immense gain in endurance, I would expect my 400m to at least remain constant. Instead it increased from 52.9 to 55.01.
Obviously, I have more endurance, but is it my lack of speed endurance training? You would think that with endurance, you would automatically have speed endurance. Is this not the case?
I know it's not a case of me losing speed because my 200m time barely changed from last year. (23.2 to 23.5)
Could it be that I lack speed endurance? Or maybe I just punked out? Or was it just because it was my frist race? Did I have a bad strategy? Any help would be appreciated.
