The only substitute teacher whose name I can still recall from grade school was Miss Hanson. She was legendary in my city, back when I was in junior high and high school. She had trouble fitting through the classroom doors and couldn't move between the rows of desks during class. I would guess that she weighed in the vicinity of 500 lbs. It must have sucked pretty bad to be a substitute teacher and have hundreds of adolescents gaping at you and making fun of you behind your back day after day. In hindsight, while I loath obesity, I give her a lot of kudos for having the courage to work that job and earn a living rather than collecting disability wages, which I'm sure she could have qualified for.
