I really hope its just a misunderstanding.
Yikes. We'll have to wait until more details emerge...
"Sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust" sounds less likely a misunderstanding as it is your typical issue of coach - high schooler bright-line boundary crossing mis-judgment by the adult/coach.
WTF. I really hope a guy from Running With the Buffaloes didn't go all Sandusky on us.
Nobody in this world needs this. I hope this is just patently false. Not much in my world I want to believe less than this.
I am almost finished with RwtB (took awhile to find a copy) and was wondering what happened to Ponce. Bummer of an answer.
Oh please, he probably got yucky with a 16 year old chick on the XC team. Hardly a harded criminal.

that was my thought. some tight young poon gave it up and the parents found out. not stalking the local playgrounds or anything.
also i love how the article mentions how sensitive the case is so the police are not releasing any more information. yet they announced exactly who they arrested. he has not be tried he has not been found guilty and our justice system presumes innocence until guilt is proven. yet this shit will follow this guy forever now. even if it is some completely false claim by a starry eyed little girl that could not get her coach to notice her pimply ugly ass.
If you feel such an injustice has been created (which I am not taking sides on), then if I may, I will point out that Ponce is being arrested, and if convicted will have to register as a sex offender, under laws created and passed by the Colorado state legislator and Governor. That is democracy. The only way you can remedy that injustice is to use that same democratic process. Use your real name, not a handle, and tell people that matter, not losers on LRC.
Specifically, if you are in Colorado you can write your representative, you can lobby the Governor for a pardon, or you may run for office yourself on the platform of "Sex with 16 year olds by 34 year old coaches should not be illegal." If you are not in Colorado, you may write an Op-Ed or editorial piece for a local Colorado newspaper, affixing your real name and location, and point out to the people of Colorado that it is an injustice that someone that is just getting a little 16-year old "tight poon" is facing prison time and a lifetime of sex offender registration, and implore them to overturn Colorado's statutory rape laws as they stand.
Your reading comprehension leaves a lot to be desired. He's not saying it shouldn't be illegal, he's saying that the alleged offenders name should not have been released prior to a finding of guilty. Especially in a situation like this it is likely that most of the public already considers him guilty and even if it does come out at trial that he is innocent (for example if the kid is lying for one reason or another) it probably won't matter for the public because all they heard about is his arrest and the newspaper probably won't run an article informing the public of an acquittal if there is one.
One of the worst double standards in the justice system centers around sex crimes. The fact that entirely unsubstantiated claims can be put against an innocent man, with his identity revealed to be dragged through the mud, while the "victim" (read ACCUSER) is allowed to hide behind the viel of annonymity. A man's identity is completely deconstructed and destroyed with ZERO evidence, while the "victim" can lob charges with impugnity.
"Victims" are not so protected in any other cases... The thought that sex crimes are "special" and need to be handled differently than normal crimes is the justification for keeping the "victim's" identity secret. Yet when it comes time to reveal the identity of the ACCUSED (NOT GUILTY, ACCUSED) sex crimes are suddenly not special and subject to the same rules as every other crime.
PUH-LEEZE.
This is another example of the LUDICROUS double standard put forth by the American Justice system to protect the interests of women AT THE DIRECT EXPENSE OF MEN.
They obviously released his name (a matter of public record by the way since he was arrested) hoping to beat the bushes and have other accusers come forth.
Maybe he can get a job as head of the USATF after this; after all, the sister organization AAU seems to like pedophiles in charge.

Actually your reading comprehension is woefully inadequate, while mine remains as robust as the girth of the member between my legs.
LAME clearly had two points (1) there is nothing wrong with getting "tight young poon" [and therefore it presumably should not be illegal, (2) the names of people presumed to be innocent should not be released, particularly while the accusser's identity is not released barring her credibility from any scrutiny.
If he was not making those points, he is on this board and is free to correct me, YOU dont have to. But, it bears mentioning that in his latest post he referred to the double standard in the "American Justice System" clearly implicating the democratically enacted laws of the state of Colorado and not merely the double standard of the "American Public."
Regardless, FWIW, I hold the personal beliefs as follows: (1) consensual sexual contact between a 16 year old and a 34 year old should not be illegal.
(2) consensual sexual contact between a athlete and coach should not be illegal
(3) consensual sexual contact between an athlete and coach should definitely lead to the coach losing his job, it is highly unprofessional.
As an addendum, both my posts refer to the posts of "I know I'm a dick" who I confused with LAMEsource, so disregard my allusion to his second post, "I know I'm a dick" has posted just once.
Regardless, I do believe that having to register as a sex offender for consensual sexual relations with a physically mature woman is an injustice, and I urge everyone here, including myself, LAMEsource, and I know I'm a dick, to use the democratic process to absolve Ponce of that requirement should he be convicted of the crime for which he has been arrested

Lame, it also protects the interests of boys/men that are assaulted. It is not a gender based double standard. Have any of Sandusky's alleged victims been identified without their consent?
There is still a bit of a social stigma in being a victim of a sex crime. If you search deep within your soul, I am sure that you would have to agree that there is not really the same stigma in having your car stolen.
If it was your 16 year old daughter and her HS coach you would be looking at this a lot differently. Grow up guys.
These types of allegations are very rarely "misunderstandings"

Exactly - I have a 16 year old daughter...and even if she were a tramp, I'd staple the 34-year-old guy's scrotum to his forehead.

In Colorado sexual assault on a child occurs when a person knowingly subjects another who is not his or her spouse to any sexual contact provided the victim is less than fifteen years of age and the actor is at least four years older than the victim.
The victim was less than 15 years old based on the charges filed against him.
Either way, banging a 16 year old that you are supposed to be in a position of authority over is okay with you? That is pretty effed up.
