The Evergreen State College Geoducks (in Washington state)

Wayne State University Tartars (now the Warriors, I think--I like tartars better)

Carnegie Mellon Tartans (school color is actually plaid)

And the Sweet Briar Vixens. Sweet Brian College is an all-female school in Virginia. Yeah, Vixens.

Also, do not forget two nicknames which were rejected when Stanford went from being the Indians to the Cardinal: The Stanford Trees and the Robber Barons. Both funny, the school named itself Cardinal after the color and not the bird, but unless I'm wrong, the color cardinal was named after the bird, so go figure.

My favorite college nickname though is the Reed College Gryphons, or Griffins.

Two high school nicknames I've always liked are the St. Mary's Rustics and the Waterford Corsairs. Very original.

The custodian from my old building was a Nimrod, and loved to remind us of it. It's in the Upper Peninsula up against a huge national forest. Very small town and not much to do besides hunt, and Nimrod was a mighty hunter.

Tough to beat nimrods for a nickname.
