Initiation Weekend: Team is making all the freshman go streaking all over campus. I could use some advice/guidance.

To be quite honest, it sounds ridiculous. Just don't do it.

I was a sprinter in college, but I had some friends on the cross country team and they did a similar naked run for freshman. They also tried to get me to do it but it just wasn't my type of thing.

Tip 1: Watch out for people hiding your clothes. I did a streak after a dual meet in college, and some w****r threw my clothes on top of the opposition bus. Luckily a pants leg was just visible and I realised before my clothes set off on a 100 mile journey. Stash a spare sweatsuit somewhere near the venue.

Tip 2: say you'll only do it if the girls do too.

Yeah, this is a form of hazing. In Florida, it's a felony.

Don't do it if you don't want.

If anyone is physically abusive to you for not doing it, call the police. Then tell your coach.

If anyone is verbally abusive to you for not doing it, tell your coach. If s/he doesn't do anything, talk to the athletic director. If s/he doesn't do anything, talk to the president. If sh/he won't do anything, transfer or try to make a stink in the press.

If you don't want to do it, don't do it. Understand that others may want to take part, and that is their prerogative. When people see that you are willing to stand up for yourself, while at the same time respecting the choices of others, they will respect you over the long run.

In college the XC team would regularly do naked runs as a team. It continued until they had an unfortunate run in with law enforcement.

this type of stuff drives me nuts. There's a line between being a lame ass and being smart. You are being smart. Just don't show up. If anybody tries to force you it is definitely sexual harassment/hazing, and its illegal. Just tell them to f*ck directly off. My team has an initiation but it's harmless and fun. Bunch of douchebags on your team it sounds like. Probably shitty runners too, but I could be wrong.

Ummm...Nobody (and no team) makes anyone do anything. If you choose to do it, so be it.

Sounds stupid to me but whatever you don't go saying something as lame as "they made me do it" - that's even stupider than streaking itself.

Thanks for all the good advice. It'll be a lot easier to tell the guys to F off when the time comes tonight.

That said, all the suggestions - telling them to F off - seem like they might have some backlash from the guys. No one's gonna be physically abusive to me or anything if I don't do it. It's not that serious. But I'm a little scared of being the 'lame guy' on the team. I'm already under suspicion since I refuse to drink at all (bad for running) or hang out past 10:00 on weekdays (gotta get sleep).

I wouldn't get offended. If it is a team tradition, it's not like they are singling you out.

You'll probably get some hell for not doing it, but if that is okay with you, skip it.

Go ahead and say you're not doing it though, don't act like you are going to do it all day and then start telling people to eff off at the last minute.

Honestly, I agree with the guy who says to say you won't do it unless the girls do it, too. That would be my response.

We had a naked mile in college, but it was co-ed. Girls did it, too. People were actually competitive. It was fun. I only did it once, but watched every time. Usually it was after a night of drinking, so it wasn't a planned thing. It was one of those things we would always talk about early in the night, but it usually never occurred. About once a year it would actually happen, and whoever had not passed out would head down to the track and line up, drunk as hell.

The year I ran it, my time was 5:06. Not bad for being three sheets...

What do you mean what happens if you get caught by the campus police?

They make you put some clothes on and say don't do it again. Pub Safe is there to make sure nobody rapes anyone else, they don't care about some harmless fun.

Just be clear and firm that you don't want to do it. Then, if any of your male teammates try to force you to undress at least you know what you are dealing with.

Would you like to have to tell every potential employer that you are a registered sex offender? If not, don't do this. I've seen these kinds of harmless pranks ruin lives because some "tough on crime" DA wants to show what a hardass he is. Everything will probably go fine, but it's not worth the risk.
