Come on, letsrun. Why this sudden rant about how easy the women's marathon standards are for the trials? You're insulting all the women out there who have worked damn hard for their qualifying times, and who are paying travel, hotel, and entry fee for the chance to run in the OT. In addition, you're insulting all the women who worked damn hard and didn't qualify. Yes, a sub-2:46 marathon is actually pretty tough. Not to mention that they have dropped the qualifying time continuously over the past few decades to account for women running faster times.
Is this just bitterness because the men lost their B standard last time around? I seem to recall a lot of backlash against that decision, and I'm curious to know why that backlash turned into "lets put down the women because they still have a B standard".
If you take away the women who have qualified with a B standard, there are only 34 women entered, relative to the 56 men who have qualified with an A in the men's race. Add in the half marathon and 10k, and you have 99 in the men's race and 48 in the women's. Add in the women who ran under 2:43, the qualifier for 2016, and you're up to 77 women - still less than the 99 men.
And yet a couple extra minutes make the women's standards somehow meaninglessly easy?
