I was lucky enough to have some success at both in HS. The team wins were great at the time, but the individual wins are the once I cherish the most now.
Running is at it's heart an individual activity, any team aspect is a matter of collecting the right group of runners. It's not like true team sports like a soccer, baseball, basketball, or a football team.
I had a state champion tell me that the team victories were moer fun because they were shared with a group.
Sounds mixed so far. Any other opinions?
I was a State Champ in 1997, my team finished 2nd. I would still have enjoyed it more if it was the other way around.
For cross country it would be the team that is more important. It is always more enjoyable to succeed as a team in XC.
I have won about 30 or 40 tournament and league championships and a couple state championships in multiple sports. When I started running and winning races as an individual it was better for me. I felt like it was all on me and I like that. When you get ranked as an individual it seems better also at least for me.
Team wins for XC are better; individual for track.
XC really is a team sport, and no one cares if you win a track team title...the team is too divided and it is usually only a few athletes that score anyways.
