Oh my god.
How do you know they are flats?
The whole way?
They look just like the Streak Xc 2s which are 5.4 ounces for a size 9. What he lost in traction, he probably gained in saving his calves.

And that's the bottom line. Nobody in the USA makes a living based on what they do in cross country. The money sport is coming up.
They're custom Streak XC 2's with a Matumbo spike plate.

The bottom line is they stayed on.

I guess we can all say that these shoes are magic then !
I didn't see the race, so I can't really comment. But, I saw a couple comments about how it didn't look like he worked hard enough. He seems to be fighting for it in those two photos....

Haven't seem him in a while. He looks pretty heavy now - 160-170 I guess.

I would agree that he looks heavier, but there is no way he weighs more than 145 or so.
I'd pay good money for a shoe like that.

As far as this picture shows, he clearly DID have spikes.
Thank heavens it came in before people started blabbering about how he could've won or whatnot had he had extra traction.
GF is the greatest runner in the history of the world. He could easily have won the NCAA Cross Country championships this year if only he had run in flats. Wearing spikes on such a hard surface had to have taken a lot of strength out of his ankles. Too bad he didn't wear flats, because he would have proved to everyone how he is all-world and the greatest of all time.
Cool story bro
130. a guy at 170 would stick out as being WAY big.
Only in our sport would the words "way too big" follow 160-170 lbs for a 6 ft tall man.

I could be mistaken, but I don't think German Fernandez is 6' tall.
Over under 30 years old for the gentlemen to the far right in this picture:
