Imagine if Webb stayed to train with Ciaran. Turns out Salazar WOULD have had a training partner for him after all.

My understanding of the Salazar group is that he is paid by Nike rather than just taking a cut of sponsorship and winnings by his athletes.

There were some quotes out of that group that everyone thought Alan was the most talented - when the group consisted of Rupp, Ritz, and Farah.

Do you think Nike consulted with Salazar on whether to keep Alan?

Why is it that only Lagat has a medal ? Can't Nike send real elites to NXN ?

BC it's XMAS seaon you heathen. The medalists are back home in Cali mainly with their families. Lagat is has a traditional Kenyan faith (akin to Shinto in Japan) so he doesn't celebrate Christmas.

First thought - no women?

Second thought - who are the other supposed US Nike medallists outside of Lagat that they could be sending to these xc meets?

Perhaps Merrit, Clay, and Gay could do some cross country promo work or they could send Centrowitz to a meet as an athlete who runs for a college that uses nike gear?

Remember how Salazar trained Webb to a 3:37 in January and a first place finish over the American 10,000m record holder, a Mr. Galen Rupp, in a road race. What tf happened?

Glad to hear that Webb still has a Nike contract. I'd like nothing more than to see him make one last comeback and make the Oly team in 2012. Webb has simply been too good and too exciting for too long to deserve having his career end the way the last four years have gone. It's been a roller coaster, no doubt, but it's been a fun ride. But the last four years haven't even been a merry-go-round, let alone a roller coaster.

Whatever the issues he's had that have kept him down the last four years, I hope he gets them resolved and can make one more good run at the international stage. A year ago now, I really thought he was well on his way; he'd run 3:36, 3:53 at 5th Ave. and beaten Rupp in a 5K road race. I really thought he was on his way back and was where he needed to be. But I harbor no delusions; I can think of no other runner who's fallen that far and stayed down for four years who ever came to anything even close to their previous best form.

But then again , it's Webb, the same guy that Ritz and Rupp said was clearly the most talented guy in their group at the time. This guy has made a career out of surprises and I-don't-believe-it moments, so who knows.

he'll be back and into low 3:30's shape by the spring. he has played this one absolutely superb. he got dinged again after his 3:37 early this year and put a stop to it realizing that the main goal is in london and beyond not in daegu.
