2:31 and top American in her first marathon. (I know, I know...weak American showing, big guns sitting out until the trials, etc).
Still, not bad for someone just starting out. Looks like she ran with Lauren Fleshman for a little over half before cruising off on her own. Molly seems really down to earth in the interviews I have viewed. One to watch in the future?
I bet the Hansons are sorry that they gave her the boot now?

You are right. It was a very weak showing for U.S. women. Do they know what women athetes are running in Ironmen races?? They are throwing down 2:42 marathons AFTER swimming a mile plus and biking HARD for 112 miles. A U.S woman I believe her name is Jessica Jacobs (?) ran a 2:52 yesterday at Ironman Florida.
I think these women should just run the marathon trials and take the Olympic spots.

It wouldn't be as easy as you seem to think for them to take any of the Olympic spots. You do realize that the rules of the sport of triathlon permit the run distance to be up to 10% too short, right? That's 4.2 kilometers short. I'm sure these ladies could obviously run faster without swimming and biking prior, but how would they do at the full distance? Could they really hang with Shalane, Kara, Stephanie, Molly, etc.?

What do you mean how would they do at the full distance? They run the FULL distance plus bike 112 miles and swim 1 mile. I think several of these woman could beat Kara and Fleishman handily.

he means (and he pointedly said this, read more closely) that in triathlon the marathon distance can be up to 10% (4.2 kms) SHORT and still be called a marathon.
He means they may not have done a full 'marathon'.

Is that true? No man has ever broken 2:40 in the World Triathlon Championships. Only 5 women have ever broken 3:00 in the World Triathlon Championships with the best being 2:52. I realize Kona is probably a lot tougher (and more accurate) than the average race, but are women routinely running 2:42 in Ironmen races?

How long has Hadley been coaching her?
since mid August according to one of the interview videos. That is post Hansons/injury I guess. So what is that a 10-11 weeks marathon prep. Pretty decent shape considering the time frame.

Wrong. For any tri distance up to oly the 10% rule may apply (I've seen much smaller varation in run distances 2-4%). Full ironman races are a legit 26.2.
C'mon now.....that's not happening... she ran well but did not look all that good finishing...she is not among the top 3 American women 9.5 weeks from now...she will still be recovering....
No they aren't. The fastest MALE time this year was a 2:42. This is the modern age, we can use this crazy thing called Google to call you on your bulls**t:
They probably told Sell that "that's not happening" too. Surprises happen all the time, especially on the women's side. It's Desi's race to lose, but there are still two spots. It's easy to say "Shalane and Kara," but I don't think that they (or Amy, Magda, or anyone else really) are so far ahead that it's outside of the realm of possibility. A 1:31 debut on the NYCM course can't be discounted.
If Molly didn't "look all that good finishing," it's because she's a 23 year old marathon rookie who took off too early (mile 18?) when the crowd got her stoked. She won't be doing that again. Or it could be because she had to build up unusually fast, since she was in the pool with a stress fracture in July.
Molly also has a remarkable ability to recover quickly. She's run well at a bunch races in a short period of time in the past. Obviously the marathon is a different beast, but she respects that, and plans to tailor her recover appropriately. She may not be the obvious choice, but don't discount her altogether. She may very well surprise you.
